[ closed ] 1st leg of UK-Caribbean, GUERNSEY to CANARIES United Kingdom to Canary Islands ref 11644
From Guernsey, United Kingdom to Fuerteventura , Canary Islands.
to January 2020.
.Hi my name is Huw im 31 and have been getting ready for crossing the Atlantic for the past 3 years, by buying my lovely 20 year old boat, a blue water cruiser that was in very good condition for the price i paid. My intention is to have 4 people on board myself and 3 other crew members to allow for a comfortable watch system as all crew will be very much involved in the sailing and command of the vessel. My itinerary is flexible and so far the loose plan is to work our way down the coast of Europe from my home town of Guernsey (departing July 2020), coastal hopping Brittany, cross the Biscay, coastal hopping down to the south of Portugal and from there make an offshore passage to the Canaries (arriving early August). This will be the first leg of my trip that I will be looking for crew, who are welcome to stay on and join me in exploring, diving and fishing the Canary Islands. (I am a qualified padi instructor and have equipment tanks compressor onboard for 5 divers). I will be in the Canaries for around 6 weeks. The next destination will be the Cape Verde for a few weeks followed by the Eastern Caribbean where I plan to cruise and dive extensively for the next three months or so. All going to plan the Pacific will be happening as well... (2021) looking for crew who are happy to contribute to the financial cost of being aboard (€20 per day), in return all cruising/boat/crew fees will be covered as well as running costs, a simple vegetarian diet suplimented by caught and speared fish, as well as up to 7 scuba dives a week. (I can teach non divers the basics so you can join the dives). A modest amount of alcohol will also be supplied when at anchor for a few days. When sailing it is a dry boat! (I am also sailing with my rescue dog Tank, he's bit of a handful, so you have to like dogs to be on this boat.) At this point I am looking for my final crew member for the first leg to join my self, one Spanish man and one French woman all in our thirties...
What roles/experience are needed (Crew 1): does not matter
What roles/experience are needed (Crew 2): does not matter
Sailing with a Rally: Independent
I'm looking for (gender): either
Cabins/Sleeping : shared cabin-own bunk
Smoking on board: smoking allowed
Total people on board: 3-4
Crew roles: I dont mind having crew with little experience as believe with the right attitude the necessary skills can be learned very quickly when you have to. I want crew who work hard, but are of a chilled vibe, experience working with your hands or in physical or stressful situations is a plus. As is the ability to push yourself when you are feeling tiered or sick. If you know how to scuba dive and can cook a few decent dishes this is also a plus. Flexible and friendly. Divers get extra points..
Money: daily contribution from crew $23
Travel to and from boat: crew pays
