Hi my name is Huw im 31 and have been getting ready for crossing the Atlantic for the past 3 years, by buying my lovely 20 year old boat, a blue water cruiser that was in very good condition for the price i paid. My intention is to have 3 people on board myself and 2 full time crew members to allow for a comfortable watch system as all crew will be very much involved in the sailing and steering of the vessel. My itinerary is flexible and so far the loose plan is to work our way down the coast of Europe from my home town of Guernsey, cross the Biscay, down to the south of Portugal and from there make an offshore passage to the Canaries (possibly via Madeira). This will be the first leg of my trip that I will be looking for crew, I estimate it will take between 30-45 days as will be having rest days in different anchorages and will be exploring the local towns along the way. After this sail I will be spending a couple of months in the Canaries diving (I am a qualified padi instructor and have equipment tanks compressor onboard for 5 divers), I will also be chartering the boat for tourists wanting to sail dive and fish, I will be needing at least one crew member to stay on to work for me while I have paying guests on board. The next destination will be the Cape Verdes, followed by the Eastern Caribbean and all going to plan the Pacific will be happening as well... My boat is a 36 foot sloop (Elan 362) in good condition, (recently surveyed, keel rebedded, new sails, new nav, many new parts, watermaker, solar, scuba set-up). She sleeps 6 comfortably and 8 at a push, has one toilet and hot shower onboard, fridge but no freezer and no air con. She cruises comfortably at 7 knots but isnt the fastest boat however is definitely up for the task. As for the crew, currently my dog Tank and I are the only crew members (over the passage I may have friends of mine join us for a week or 2 at a time). After finishing university i ended up travelling the world for 5 years or so mainly working as a diver or in bars as i travelled, so have seen the world from the backpacker route and am now onto the sea view. So im 31 am vegetarian (but may be eating fish on board) I currently work as a gardener, love the outdoors and nature, I am easy going but am up for an adventure. As for my dog he is a staffie cross and will be 3 by time of departure, he has his sea legs as he has lived on the boat for the past 18 months, he's a rescue dog and quite the handful but will make a good guard dog when we get to the more remote areas.
