Sailing: I've been sailing since 1992 mostly in the San Francisco Bay with several charters at different locations around the world as the captain and two extended boat deliveries where I was crew. Aside from the two sailboats I've owned, an O'Day 22 and Hans Christian 33, my sailing has mostly been on Beneteau and Jeanneau monohulls between 38' and 44'. One charter for which I was the captain was a 38' catamaran. I completed an 11-day trip through five Leeward Islands in March 2024 aboard a 60' cutter-rigged sloop. All the boats except the 60' cutter rigged sloop have had roller furling headsails, hence the modest foredeck experience, though I want to help fly some downwind sails. Understanding that being friend/self-taught can lead to some gaps in learning, I joined a sailing club/school in 2017 and went through all of the US Sailing certification courses available to me. Other: I am married to a woman kind enough to parole me for sailing adventures periodically. It's a bargain she entered into so I wouldn't buy another boat. ;-) I love to travel; it feeds my soul. And I find pleasure in pushing my comfort zone by doing things new to me. I'm a retired attorney and my wife and I run a wilderness adventure summer camp for kids in California's Tahoe National Forest. I have two adult sons. One is a mechanical engineer in Reno, NV, and the other is graduating in the spring of 2024 from UC Santa Cruz in psychology. I enjoy keeping up on current events and like reading/listening about history from recent to ancient. I also like hiking, particularly up in the Sierra Nevada mountains. P.S. Apologies for the photo, but that's about as good as I ever look. | |
