First, the idea of “bucket lists” has always struck me as a cheating of life. If we desire to explore mentally, physically, spiritually we have an obligation to ourselves for continuous exploration; to have on-going purpose! Waiting for the perfect confluence of time and space before acting, is akin to waiting for Death to give us permission. Waiting a day or so for weather to clear, assessing such calculated risks, to run the table or not ... is not to be confused with life’s long term purpose. That said, the past four years have been out of sorts with my general purpose; ocean crossings (post-COVID), sailing in the Gulf Islands, etc. will help true up. I mountain climbed at a decent grade for 20 years; always with trusted friends at the end of my rope. I have attempted this on the sea. I seek strong friends and steady hands. General background: engineer running my own consultancy for 35+ years; several graduate degrees; etc. | |
