Recommendations Edward received 17 recommendations from members 09 Nov 2020 from Jag, 57, male Account ID: 341223 Having sailed with Captain Edward for a second time confirmed the vast experience at sea he has under any conditions but also life in general. Ed likes to do things the right way, no shortcuts, not games, just right. In my opinion it is a lifetime opportunity to be able to spend time with such an educated gentleman, seasoned Skipper, experienced human being and kind friend. I highly recommend sailing with him if you want to sail on an amazing sailboat with a great teacher. 09 Nov 2020 from Josh, 42, male Account ID: 239733 I helped Captain Edward sail his Jeanneau 53 from Charleston, SC to Miami, FL. It was a great learning experience and he provided good company. We had less than ideal conditions, with multiple small craft advisories; Captain Edward paid close attention to the weather, searching for the best windows to travel and always maintaining a backup plan. We ended up with a good mixture of sailing in challenging conditions and exploring various ports when conditions worsened and travel was inadvisable. While conditions were not always fun, with 10-12 ft waves at times, we stayed safe with a conservative sail plan, ready for conditions to worsen. The 17-25 knot winds, with gusts to 35, and waves mostly on the beam led to some high sailing speeds, reaching 12+ knots SOG when we happened to get some following waves. I would not hesitate to crew with Captain Edward again on his well-equipped boat. 26 Jul 2020 from John, 59, male Account ID: 343322 I helped move Dr. Edward his beautiful Jeaneau 53 from Charleston SC to New York. The boat is well equipped and very well maintained. Dr. Edward was great company and a good teacher. I am building days toward a CG captains license and every trip I hope to learn something so it was good to sail with a Skipper with as much experience as Dr. Edward. The 53 foot boat is much bigger than the monohulls I have sailed and it was a great opportunity to see how to expertly handle a boat this size near the docks. I highly recommend sailing with Dr. Edward and I am looking forward to sailing with him again in the future. 01 Nov 2019 from Jag, 57, male Account ID: 341223 Sailing with Captain Ed was fantastic, not only an education in the Art of Sailing but also in life as he has accumulated wisdom and likes to share it. Ed is a well educated seasoned sailor with much experience in life and at sea. Safety first, navigation by the book, the good food, laughs at super comfort on his marvelous Jeanneau 53 DS, fast and fully equipped. 21 Jun 2018 from Danny, 29, male Account ID: 318191 Dr. Edward is a kind man and an accomplished sailor. He has sailed all around Europe as well as raced in South and North America. His main concern is safety and having an enjoyable and educational sail. On our trip, I boarded his boat in Virginia Beach and we sailed up to Manhattan. His vessel has all of the amenities that one could desire on board. His navigational system makes sailing a breeze. If you ever have the chance to sail with Dr. Edward, I recommend you do so. 30 Jun 2017 from David, 58, male Account ID: 228673 I just had an amazing sailing experience spending two weeks in North Atlantic helping Edwardo move his beautiful 53 ft Jeanneau from his winter home in Miami to his summer home in NYC. Edwardo is an exceptional sailor and veteran racer who has an intimate knowledge of not only his boat but the sea, currents and winds. I am an eager student of sailing and Edwardo was great teacher who took the time to give me hands on experience and lessons in steering techniques, navigational considerations and sail dynamics while always trying to maximize the boat’s possibilities and our speed. One day we covered 247 miles in a 24 hour period in the Gulf Stream. That was phenomenal! Whether we were 125 miles off shore in Gulf Stream or a third of mile off the beaches of New Jersey, Edwardo always had us on the most efficient course. He was always checking the weather and planning ahead for our night watches and scheduling our jibes and tacks to keep us on the most efficient course to NYC while always having an eye on mine and his safety at sea. You can tell that over his lifetime he has been in all kinds of sailing scenarios and instinctively knows how to manage every nuance that the sea, wind and weather presents. It is a beautiful boat but even beauties need repairs due to the rigors of round the clock sailing. Fortunately Edwardo has every necessary tool and accessory or back-up part to fix or improvised a repair when needed. When high winds in a rain storm ripped the mainsail which was reefed we headed for Beaufort, NC. We found a local sailmaker in Beaufort and the two of us worked together to take down the sail and mast carts, got it patched and rehung. Later in Cape May we worked together to replace a boom halyard that had snapped the day before. After close to 1200 miles we finally arrived to God rays breaking through the clouds in Great Kills Harbor, Staten Island, NY. I joined the boat in New York and we, the skipper, Scott (a regular crew on this yacht) and I, started our voyage to Miami by sailing down to Portsmouth/Norfolk, Virginia. The skipper's seamanship is only second to his vast life experience. If you want some serious sailing, this is the place for you. Edward is a very good teacher and sailor, not afraid of any weather or overnight sailing (of course with full respect to safety), always checking weather forecast through internet and picking best route for sailing that particular day. He knows his boat well. For the first two weeks of our travels, Scott, a regular crew of Captain Edward, was also aboard. Earlier on Findacrew, he wrote this: “Dr Edward is an outstanding sailor. He is more knowledgeable about his boat than any sailor I have met in the past 20 years.” Please note that that Scott is ex Navy officer/professional captain... I, on the other hand, was a sailing novice. I learned a lot... The basics of sailing as well as many safety lessons. Edward is very serious when it comes to safety. The safety equipment aboard his sailboat reflects that concern. I always felt in very safe hands, even when sailing from Brunswick, Georgia to Miami, less then 36 hours after the passage of hurricane Matthew. To be honest, that was my favorite part of our journey :) Once we had reached Miami, Edward showed me some of his favorite spots. One place comes to my mind: The U.S. Sailing Center, one of ten official U.S. Olympic training sites in the United States, a place where Edward honed his J24 sailing skills. I wish I had known more about sailing prior to meeting Edward because he's an undepletable well of sailing knowledge. I could only scratch the surface of it. I would definitely go sailing with Captain Edward again. 12 Apr 2016 from Hania, 63, female Account ID: 150836 It was a brief encounter on Eduardo's boat in Miami as I had to go back home after over four months of ocean deliveries. Just a little gap to meet and consider future opportunities (I hope they will happen). Even during just two days of being there I had a chance to experience his sailing talents and hospitality. The boat is immaculate clean and tidy. I felt very safe and comfortable as a crew of the Jeanneau. 22 Oct 2015 from Gustav, 52, male Account ID: 147880 I've spent with Capt Edward 2 weeks sailing from NYC to Miami on his beautiful Jeanneau53'. Dr Edward has huge sailing experience, paying much attention to crew and boat safety and willing to share his knowledge. His boat is furnished with all newest navigational equipment, everything is kept neat, and always ready for action. We spent together great time sailing and on shore exploring few cities along the way. Dr Edward is great companion, pleasant person with good sense of humor. Would not hesitate to sail again with Capt Edward 03 Jul 2015 from Scott, 62, male Account ID: 157840 This was my 3rd time sailing with Captain Edward, it is always a pleasure. Edward is a perfect gentleman. He is well educated, worldly, laid back, and easy to get along with. His boat is fast and he has an enthusiasm for sailing that is unparalleled. If you want a voyage that is filled with “true sailing” then Captain Edward’s boat is the place to be! I am already looking forward to my next voyage with Captain Edward, where ever that may be . . . 02 Jul 2015 from Harry, 31, male Account ID: 232689 I sailed with Edwardo in the Atlantic from Norfolk, VA to New York, NY. We spent several enjoyable days on land and at sea. The boat is beautiful, functional, and is kept in perfect condition at all times. Edwardo is above all an excellent sailor and captain, and when sailing with him you will benefit from a lifetime of experience on the ocean. He is also good company, always ready to make a joke, share a story or listen to one. I would highly recommend him to inexperienced or experienced sailors. 09 Nov 2014 from Scott, 62, male Account ID: 157840 “Tell me what kind of men are these that sail upon the salty seas?” Part 2 We could either head to a safe harbor, like all the other sailboats were doing. Or we could try to make the boat go very fast in an effort to outrun the cold front and the imminent risk to safety of the ship and crew. We chose to outrun the cold front. We made a mad dash to Cape Canaveral, FL sailing when we could and motor sailing when we had to. As we reached Cape Canaveral, the cold front reached us. The wind increased to 20-25kts from the NW (still abaft the beam) and the seas were less than 2-ft. We put 3 reefs in the mainsail and 3 reefs in the jib which provided a swift ride at 8-8.5kts. By the time we were south of Cape Canaveral the wind was steady at 25kts with gusts to 28kts. The Captain and I had the boat roaring like a freight train. Doing 8.9-9.5kts we were “southbound with the hammer down”. We maintained this boat speed for the next 24 hrs. During the evening of the third day the wind went to a steady 28kts with gusts to 32kts. We were maintaining a boat speed of 9.3-10.3kts as we rode the leading edge of the cold front past Miami Beach and into Biscayne Bay. The temperature had dropped to 48F in Miami and the wind was blowing 30-32kts inside Biscayne Bay. When we finally reached our destination and tried to lower the mainsail, the sail would not come down because the sail slides had become jammed due to the immense pressure from the strong winds. So we anchored in Biscayne Bay at midnight while the Captain raised me up the mast in a bosun’s chair with a hammer so that I could pound the slides loose in order to lower the mainsail. Once the mainsail was down we made it safely to the marina. This gentleman is an expert sailor, he exhibits exemplary seamanship skills and a keen awareness for safety of the ship and crew. I always have wonderful and exhilarating voyages with this member. He is a proper gentleman, laid back, easy going, and always a pleasure to go sailing with. 08 Nov 2014 from Scott, 62, male Account ID: 157840 “Tell me what kind of men are these that sail upon the salty seas?” Part 1 This was my second time sailing with Dr Edward. In June 2014 I joined the boat in Charleston, SC and the two of us sailed the boat to Manhattan, NY. In October 2014 I joined the boat in Manhattan and the two of us sailed the boat to Miami. During the first leg of the voyage (to Norfolk, VA) the wind was light and on our nose, so we had to motor sail much of the way. We rested in Norfolk for 2 days while waiting for the proper weather to sail around Outer Banks, NC. As we rounded Cape Henry in Virginia Beach the winds were abaft the beam at 10kts. We raised a light air Code 0 headsail along with the mainsail. This sail plan provided a gentle ride at approximately 7kts. The weather held up around Cape Hatterass and all the way to Cape Lookout, NC. When we rounded Cape Lookout we were heading closer to the wind and the seas went to 3-5ft with a 2 second period. So we had a bumpy ride from Cape Lookout to well past Cape Fear. The wind and the waves finally calmed down and we motor sailed the final few hours into Charleston, SC. We rested in Charleston, SC for 3 days, enjoying the good food and southern hospitality while waiting for a good weather window for the next leg of the voyage. We left Charleston on a N/NW wind from an approaching cold front. Once again we had the wind abaft the beam which provided a nice gentle ride at approximately 7-8kts. During the first evening of this leg of the voyage NOAA weather service reported that the approaching cold front was strengthening and creating hazardous marine conditions. The USCG issued a “Maritime Warning” (one step above Small Craft Advisory). Behind the leading edge of the cold front the seas were reported to be 7-9ft and expected to increase to 10-15ft. At this point Dr Edward and I had a huge decision to make. - Part 2 will follow next 13 Aug 2014 from Jeff, 37, male Account ID: 245224 I had the pleasure of sailing with Captain Ed from Warwick, RI to Martha's Vinyard, MA. Due to necessary repairs I stayed on the boat while we were in port for a few days before we set sail. He throughly went over the safety equipment & procedures to ensure I was familiar with it all for the safety of the crew & preservation of his beautiful boat. He familiarized me with my responsibilities when we would be leaving port & docking to ensure I would be confident & comfortable when the time arrived for action. Ed is a patient man who wants you to understand the ways he wants things done & is happy to explain why. Everything he taught me either went with what I already knew or was an improvement upon it. We covered all of this before we left port. Ed is a very pleasant easy going man with a great since of humor. Even in stressful situations he keeps his calm, prioritizes needs and manages the boat well. Captain Ed has allot of experience & is happy to share stories, experiences & knowledge of sailing the world. He likes things to be clean, neat & tidy. I was pleased to have him working right beside me when it was time to clean the boat or perform other maintenance/tasks. I thought I ate healthy until Ed cooked a few delicious meals for us. Then I learned to eat even healthier. I would recommend sailing with Ed if you ever have the opportunity. You will have a great time & learn allot. 01 Aug 2014 from Mira, 48, female Account ID: 219502 I came from Central America to New York City to join the boat. I really liked to stay with Captain Edward. The boat is really beautiful, all in perfect working condition and neat. The boat has all kind of passive and active safety devices, and the captain pays a lof of smart attention to safety for the crew. The captain has a lot of experience and he is happy to share his knowledge. The captain is calm, patient and with a good sense of humor. We spent together 2 nice weeks and I had to leave the USA because limits on my visa stay. I can recommend with all my heart to crew this boat to women and men. You will have a lot of fun and good food. 17 Jun 2014 from Scott, 62, male Account ID: 157840 Dr Edward is an outstanding sailor. He is more knowledgeable about his boat than any sailor I have met in the past 20 years. If you are a beginning sailor, Dr Edward will be happy to teach you everything you need to know about sailing and why things are done a certain way on a boat. He is very patient and understands that sometimes things need to be explained more than once before they are completely understood. If you are a novice or experienced sailor you will really enjoy sailing with Dr Edward as he loves to turn off the engine as soon as weather conditions permit and use the sails for power as much as possible. You will be able to experience reefing the main, trimming the sails for various angles of attack on the wind, choosing alternate sails for different wind conditions in the various oceans and harbors in which you might be sailing. Dr Edward is a true gentleman in every sense of the word. He is polite, easy going, respectful of others, and always conscious and concerned about the safety and well being of the boat and the crew. If you have a chance to go sailing with Dr Edward you should say “yes” and you will have a wonderful experience on the open water. Scott B. 07 Apr 2014 from Amanda, 32, female Account ID: 237071 I spent 3 days with Edwardo on his sailboat. He is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to sailing, travelling, and life in general. He has many stories to share and they were all entertaining. Not only did he teach me the basics of sailing, but he taught me many safety lessons while aboard. Edwardo is very serious when it comes to safety and his boat is equipped with a high level of safety tools and features. He was kind and respectful to me while I crewed with him. It was a very enjoyable trip and learning experience. Edward provided 13 recommenda
