I have crewed on 8 Caribbean 1500's and 3 Salty Dawg Rallies from Hampton, VA to the Caribbean. I have 2 Atlantic crossings (St. Thomas USVI to Bermuda to the Azores in 2014 and Rockland, ME to Crookhaven, Ireland in 2021) I don't get seasick, and twice have been the only person on the boat not seasick and able to continue on the passage until the others acquired their sea legs. I don't make commitments or book flights home until after we arrive at our destination, enabling me to stay on as crew even if there is a longer than expected passage. The 2018 Caribbean 1500 took 16 days instead of the expected 10 because we had to divert to the Turks and Caicos islands due to a storm. I was able to stay with the boat as crew until we arrived in the BVI. My longest passage was on an IP420 to the Azores. I was with the boat for 2 months, helping in pre-departure work for a week and spending a month in the Azores. In 2016 I crewed on a Tartan 37 from Gibraltar to the Canary Islands where we joined the ARC and then sailed to Cape Verde. I was with that boat for 1 month. Delivered a 52 Grand Banks Trawler from the Bahamas to Puerto Rico in 11/12; 2012 and 2018 ISAF Safety at Sea Certification and completed the World Cruising Club Ocean Sailing Seminar in 2012; Sailed from Maryland to Maine on my boat 2012 and 2016 and 2017; Sailed in the Solent in 2012 and in Cornwall in 2008; Retired USCG Auxiliary Coxswain / AuxOp Certification and Division Captain in 2002. Other Coast Guard Aux. qualifications included Instructor, Weather, Navigation, Communications Watchstander and Search and Rescue. I taught both Sailing Fundamentals and Advanced Coastal Navigation. I was awarded the Division Leadership award in 2010 and the Paul Owens Memorial Award for Leadership in 2005 for my work at SARDET Wilmington. Other qualifications include PADI Rescue Diver / Dry Suit Diver Certification; TDI Nitrox Certification; Emergency First Responder Certification and Amateur Radio License | |
