Please note that I am part of a couple. My partner has limited sailing experience and would join me as part of any crew I join I started sailing when I was 8, over 50 years ago. Since then, I've owned keel boats ranging from 30 to 43 feet and still have a 15 foot dinghy that I first sailed 40 years ago. Jennifer and I completed a passage from Gran Canaria to Antigua in November/December 2022 on a 44 catamaran. We stood overnight watch together each night in conditions varying from calm to 7m seas and 25+ knot wind. It was a great experience and we plan on doing it again. I've taken courses on sail trim, VHF radio operation and basic navigation. I'm comfortable using GPS chart plotters, anchoring, leaving and coming back to dock, and reefing sails. I am an engineer and can do basic maintenance on diesel engines and electrical systems. As examples, in the past I've replaced boats' instrumentation, changed our boat's head to electric flush, installed tank monitors, replaced mast wiring and I always do my own annual maintenance on our engine, transmission and water systems. | |
