Sea Stewardship is a non profit sailing organization, aimed to provide aid to REMOTE pacific islands, through coral conservation work, cargoing supplies, and teaching workshops about entrepreneurship. In 2020 we will expand our work from Kiribati Islands to French Polynesia. We are working with an amazing scientist who is already set up with the governments and the community there. We would like a capable navigator to support our captains ability AND experienced crew. It would be great if our crew was also interested in the projects we will be involved in when we get to our destination. Ben is a mechanical engineer from the Netherlands who has a passion for sailing. He is a 500 Ton Master and has been working on a sailing cargo vessel, that serves remote islands in the Kiribati and the Cook Islands. Through his work, Ben acquired a lot of friends on the most remote islands in the Pacific Ocean. Many of these friends asked his help in starting small businesses, but Ben's time was always limited because of the tight time schedule of the cargo vessel. Ari is a professional artist with a practical interest in agriculture and ecology. She has been based in Hawaii since 1982, after spending her youth in the Bahamas, and receiving her artistic education across the US. A decade ago she laid the foundations for the Sea Stewardship concept. During the last two years in the South Pacific,we came to realize the drastic extent of the coral bleaching in the tropical South Seas. Thus we decided to make it our focus to help the most remote of Pacific Islanders,to learn how to manage the health of their reefs through coral gardening, This involves recognizing corals that have been able to with stand the heat and cloning them, ( creating and maintaining super coral nurseries) managing remaining hungry coral eating predators, creating no fishing zones with the community's support, providing alternative sources of protein for island people which is another chapter of our involvement through more training in setting up Happy Chicken farms. | |
