Here is my sailing CV: I did a little bit of optimists sailing when I was 8 or 9. But I only caught the bug at the age of 20 with a trip between Ireland and France together with some friends, and then a few trips in the Baltics. Five years later, I had earned my Swiss Yachtmaster certificate. From 2005 to 2007, our family (together with my wife and two small kids), sailed around the Atlantic in a 35ft sloop. In addition to this, we have been chartering in the Baleares, Italy, Turkey and the Caribbean. And we still own our little yacht. She is now based in Croatia for 12 years and we know pretty much every island there. A couple of years ago I also started dinghi and cat sailing - including a bit of foiling - on Lake Garda and Menorca. Here in Switzerland, I own an RS aero and go out on the lake whenever wind and weather permit. I also hand-built a 14ft boat that I sail in light winds (and row when there is no wind at all). Finally, we own a little sailing school for children with a hand full of Optimists and RS Teras in the heart of Zürich. In 2020 I participated as crew on a big monohull in the ARC, sailing from France via Canary Islands to Antigua. Summer 21 & 22, I spent two months on our yacht in the Adriatic. In 2023 I did my fourth Atlantic crossing on a 50ft Benetau. Other life: I have quit a management job in the Financial Industry in 2020 and started studying Music Research in 2021. Since 2023 I run a small tourism business. My main insterest is in longer offshore time (crossings). I love the emptiness of the ocean, the changing colors of day night, the sounds of the sea, the balanced boat taking care of itself... My wife works as a sailing teacher; so, if you are looking for an experienced couple, let me know. If you accept me on board, you will probably find me to fit in just fine. I'm not the big party guy, but I can be serious fun. I definitely try to be a good citizen on board: I help in the kitchen, I can cook decently, I do the washing-up, tidy up my stuff, leave the bath in good conditions behind me etc. On a person-to-person level, I'm interested in people, especially what's hidden behind the first impression. I'm generally very open minded, but for the sake of transparency: if you are dogmatic catholic, a sexist or racist, or if you are a friend of right-wing populists - any of these - we will probably not get along. As I have owned and built a boat, I know how to fix a few things. Beyond the basics like changing a diesel filter I'm not really great with engines and I'm horrible with finishing jobs, but I'm used to find a fix for everything serious. Some logistics: According to my latest medical checkup, I'm in great health. I'm happy to travel to wherever a good trip leads me. As I do have a fair bit of experience as a skipper, I can jump in if needed, even if my preference is for crew positions.
