[ active ] Plymouth to Bergen via Caledonian Canal United Kingdom to Norway ref 16137
From Plymouth, United Kingdom to Bergen, Norway.
July 2027 to July 2027.
What roles/experience are needed (Crew 1): Watch-leader
What roles/experience are needed (Crew 2): Watch-leader
Sailing with a Rally: None
I'm looking for (gender): either
Cabins/Sleeping : own cabin-own bunk
Smoking on board: non-smokers only
Total people on board: 4
Crew roles: This should be a fantastic trip as we leave Plymouth, sail around Lands End and then head up to the Isle of Man. We then sail up to Fort William and through the Caledonian Canal before exiting at Stirling. Depending on forecast we may call in to the Orkneys before arriving at Bergen. We have 2 weeks so there will be some two to three nights at sea passages but there will also be time to stop for rest days as well. The boat is 100% prepared with a deep 3rd reef as well as a stay sail and storm jib so we should be able to cope with most conditions, generally we will sail in winds up to F7 depending on sea state and shelter options. The boat is quick and you will need to be fit enough and able to operate it in possibly demanding conditions, this could include foredeck work and maintaining a proper watch at night to ensure everyone stays safe. As preparation you will need to be able to come for a trial sail from Plymouth at a convenient date prior to the sail so you can learn the systems, roles and meet the other crew. We will conduct reefing and MOB drills as well as general sailing so this should be fun day and I will provide lunch for everyone. In terms of experience you will need to be fit and able to sail the boat effectively, you need to have previously stood night watches and be able to identify dangers well before they become a problem, such as approaching ships and navigation lights. This is not a passage for a novice with limited experience, RYA qualifications such as Coastal skipper are good but let me know what you have done previously. The boat has 2 doubles aft as well as a double in the saloon available so we should be able to make sure that everyone has the right accommodation sorted for them prior to leaving. All expenses are shared but these will be kept as low as possible and we will agree the food menu for the 2 weeks prior to leaving so I can sort it all ready for the departure. As a commercial skipper I know how to run a boat and make it an enjoyable experience so I look forward to hearing from you and this should be a great opportunity to build sea miles and experience as well as having a great sailing experience.
Money: expenses shared equally
Travel to and from boat: crew pays
