[ Cancelled ] West to east – Atlantic Sint Maarten to Portugal ref 14799

Brendan Arthur wants 2 crew for Giramondo, Privilege 515, m.

From Simpson Bay, Sint Maarten to Azores, Portugal.

May 2024 to June 2024.

Crew found - 1 tentative. May re-open. Depart St Maarten late May 2024 to arrive in the beautiful Azores. The boat will cruise the Azores for a couple of weeks before sailing on short-handed to Gibraltar, an opportunity for crew to continue to Gibraltar may exist. We are a sailing couple (50 years old). We quit our jobs, sold our home and bought Giramonda. We renovated her fully and sailed from the UK to the Caribbean, and write this from the British Virgin Islands. We were planning to stay for another season, but with some recent scares we want to return home to Europe to be closer to our elderly parents. In two weeks we will head to St Maarten to begin rig checks, engine maintenance and provisioning for the return trip to Europe. We love our boat, she is our home, and we seek crew that will respect that she is our home, not only a blue water offshore sailing vessel. This really means shoes off inside, and tidy up after yourself. We have two comfortable twin cabins with own private shower and head. Giramondo is a blue water robust 50’ foot ocean going luxury catamaran with two 75hp Yanmar diesel engines. Water maker, generator, 1.6kw of solar, carries 600L of fuel, 600L of water, has two life rafts, storm jib, etc etc. plus home comforts like washing machine, dishwasher, gas oven, hob, fridge freezer, air con. She has a protected helm position.

We’ll accommodate in the Azores for a couple of days after we arrive. We have Starlink onboard for daily WhatsApp and weather updates, or to manage onward flights etc. Reasonable use included but not to download movies: that’s not to say you can’t, just chip in. It has been done before. Giramondo was fully inspected by the World Cruising Club prior to our departure from Las Palmas to Cape Verde for all necessary safety equipment. Crew will need to bring their own life jackets. Crew will need to do day and night watches, 3 hours on, 9 hours off. Although daytime is casual. We all get involved in cooking and cleaning. If the sea state is calm enough we’ll have a nice evening diner together, before ight watches start, if not its likely to be soup or pot noodle. We’re looking for fun loving people, with a can do attitude. You could be between 20 or 70, single or a couple. Safety is our primary importance, comfort second, and so knowledge of your own limits is key, you can’t know everything, ask for help, you will learn how to handle the boat. We do expect you to already know sail handling and man over board procedures, but prior experience with a catamaran isn’t necessary. Interested? Contact us via WhatsApp message on 00447475761734.
