[ closed ] US to Caribbean Passage Crew United States to Grenada ref 13062

David Wells wants 2 crew for Boundless, Atlantic 57, m.

From Hampton VA, United States to St. Georges, Grenada.

to .

We are planning a trip from the Hampton, VA area to Grenada departing around November 1. To the extent that the weather cooperates and that it is safe and mostly comfortable to do so we will try to make the trip in one passage. At roughly 1,800 miles predicted we expect the trip to take about ten days, though passage timing planning for a yacht which can suddenly maintain 12+ knots when the wind comes right is a bit tricky. We are not racing sailors, but we like to make swift and efficient passages and arrive with the boat in good shape. We generally stand solo watches, though any required sail handling and maneuvers will mostly be done with the captain on deck. We run the yacht family style, everybody pitches in - preparation, sailing, maintenance, cooking, cleanup, the whole program. We generally eat mostly plain fresh foods simply prepared, and very little meat. We of course run a drug free boat, and there is no alcohol consumption underway.  Boundless is a high-performance 57' catamaran designed by Chris White and built by Alwoplast in 2009 as the 7th of 11 boats built to this design. We have owned her since December 2018, and have sailed her over 11,000 miles since then including a circumnavigation of Newfoundland and a round trip to the Caribbean. Boundless is very well equipped with gear for comfort, convenience, and safety, and we maintain her to a very high standard. In the last year we have given her three new sails, a complete new navigation electronics suite and autopilot, a new dinghy/outboard and a new life raft among many other smaller updates. We carry two satellite communication systems to be sure of always getting weather forecasts. What roles/experience are needed (Crew 1): does not matter

What roles/experience are needed (Crew 2): does not matter

Sailing with a Rally: Independent

I'm looking for (gender): either

Cabins/Sleeping : own cabin-own bunk

Smoking on board: smoking allowed

Total people on board: 4

Crew roles: The Crew - We are looking for one or two people to sail with us on this passage. The first qualification is to be fully Covid 19 vaccinated with proof; Grenada is not admitting travelers who aren’t vaccinated. The second qualification is non-smoking; this is very important to us - genuinely non-smoking people who haven’t just gone cold turkey, or those who will sneak a cigarette ashore or any time they think they can onboard. After that we are looking for easy-going people with a love of the sea, a sense of humor, and good physical fitness and agility. Cooking skills a huge bonus! Some sailing experience is required, and you must be able to steer a compass course. We strongly prefer not to take people on their first offshore trip - please have one of those already and ideally a reference letter from that captain. Enough knowledge of boats and sailing in general to treat Boundless well is very helpful. You will have a private cabin and a shared head. We pay for all expenses on board, and may assist with travel costs on a case-by-case basis. Ideally we can meet in person or have a video call on Skype or FaceTime to finalize a mutual decision to sail together.

Money: captain pays all expenses

Travel to and from boat: negotiable
