[ active ] St augustine to St Thomas USVI United States to United States ref 15421

Marty Tighe wants 1 crew for Summerwind, Jeanneau 50Ds, m.
From St Augustine, FL, United States to St Thomas, USVI, United States.
April 2025 to May 2025.
St. Augustine, FL to St. Thomas USV( We have an opening for one additional crew member/or a couple (that would share a double cabin). We are looking for someone or couple who have at least some offshore sailing experience. Typically we use Crew search websites and we’ve had great success over the years finding crew. However, in this case, we had a crewmember dropout the day before the voyage, so we rescheduled our departure date to Monday, April 28 from St. Augustine, FL. According to Predictwind sail routing tool, the voyage will take between 8-1/2 to 9 days to reach St. Thomas, USVI. You would be expected to participate equally in watch keeping, preparing meals, and basically keeping the boat in ship-shape. Summerwind is a JEANNEAU 50 DS and is well equipped. She carries two 8 person Winslow liferafts, 16 type one PFD‘s, 4 Mustang type PFD‘s, 3 EPIRB’s (which are location beacons). She has a built-in water maker, icemaker, a Brio cold water dispenser, as well as a clothes washer. She is powered by a jib and a main sail and has a supplemental Yanmar 75 HP turbo diesel engine. In addition we have 1,000 watts of solar power, 1,000 amps of lithium batteries and all Victron controllers and Victron Quattro inverter. This is a nice opportunity for someone who is retired, out of work or who has lots of vacation time, and loves the ocean. You would need to travel to St. Augustine to meet the departure arriving on Sunday. You would also need to purchase a flight back from St.Thomas to the United States. There are flights from St. Thomas to Orlando for about $250. There’s no cost to come on the trip and we will provide all food and provisions aboard. The person, or a couple, would have your own double cabin. Once in St. Thomas, you would be welcome to stay onboard an extra week to explore the islands and to enjoy the Caribbean sunshine. It is always good to have a passport with you, but US citizens don’t need a passport for travel to the USVI. However, if you want to travel to the BVI while in the islands, they require a valid passport. In full disclosure Ocean Sailing is not without risk, however, I have been fortunate over the years to work around any problems that surfaced while underway. However, this is mother nature, so all kinds of things can happen, but usually don’t. The predictwind routing tools are not showing wind greater than 20 kn at this time. As some of you know, I hold a USCG master captain’s license with a sailing endorsement. I have crossed the Atlantic and sailed twice to Tahiti, as well as sailed around the coast of Europe from Southampton, England to Mallorca in the mediterranean. In the US, I have sailed from Maine to Miami and many times up and down the eastern seaboard and to and from Bermuda from New York. With that perspective, sailing down to the islands to me is rather tame. If you have any interest, you can contact me directly at 404-229-0507 or at [email protected]. .
Marty is currently based in St Augustine, United States
What roles/experience are needed (Crew 1): does not matter
Sailing with a Rally: None
I'm looking for (gender): either
Cabins/Sleeping : own cabin-own bunk
Smoking on board: non-smokers only
Total people on board: 4
Crew roles: Looking for additional Crew with OffShore Sailing experience. A non-smoker, and alcohol will not be consumed to board while underway. This is a great opportunity for someone to develop additional sea time and experience.. Marty, the owner, will be on board and is a USCG master Captain with a sailing endorsement. Marty has sailed for 18 years and has crossed the Atlantic during the 2014 ARC, and sailed twice to Tahiti, once from San Diego, California, and wants from Auckland New Zealand. Marty has also sailed from Southampton England to my work in the med via Gibraltar. In the United States Marty has sailed from Maine to Miami multiple times up and down the East Coast, as well as sailed in California and Michigan. The more Sailing spirit you have the better but the only real criteria is that you’ve been offshore for at least a few nights and understand what Ocean Sailing is about. The boat is a beautiful 50 foot Jeanneau 50DS. She is equipped with two Winslow liferafts, three EPIRBS, 45 hp Yanmar Turbo diesel. She has a water maker, icemaker, washing machine for electronics are all Garmin installed within the last three years, including radar, AIS, auto pilot and two chart plotters. She also carries Starlink and uses all Victron electronics. She has 1000 amps of solar as well as 1000 A of lithium batteries installed in 2024.
