[ Cancelled ] Silverland French Polynesia French Polynesia to French Polynesia ref 8610

marco hollebeek wants 1 crew for silverland, brigantine, 20m.

From papeete, French Polynesia to can vary, French Polynesia.

September 2017 to August 2020.

We are Marco 46, Marije 44, Mathies 9, and the shipsdog Mare. We come from the Netherlands and we started sailing from there in 2013. Our goal is to circumnavigate the world in a slow and relax way. We live sober, free and healthy and we travel on a small budget. Sinds 2014 we have more or less 9 months per year several crew on board like you can be one. Besides 1 exception (that’s why we made this document now) they loved it all on board Silverland and they never regret that they came and we are still in good contact with them. Coming year we sail around in French Polynesia where we arrived November 2016 from Equador. We will navigate the Tuamotus, Gambier, Tahiti and Moorea. It’s important to know that if we like a spot we will be at anchor for some weeks and don’t sail continuously. We like to get to know a place and make contact with the people who live there. So you will not be part of a sailing team or so. We are always looking for beautiful, special places, not the touristspots. We are young minded, sporty people. We like to surf, kitesurf, snorkel and hike. So most of the time we look for a place where we can do that. But, we also like to have just a good time on board with friends we meet on the way or just chill out on the sofa watching a vid or play a game. Our son Mathies is a super fanatic fisherman and he catches often our diner. He can teach you all the skills  We are not looking for a skilled sailor, but a connection with the sea is nice! We are looking for a handyman, who’s looking for an adventure. You must know that we are a family and have our issues sometimes with arguments, also with Mathies. (but the good thing is, thats in Dutch so half the time you don’t even know that there is something going on;-) Silverland is oak on oak built in 1957 in Danmark as a fishing vessel. She is 20m from bow to stern, 27 m all over, 5,30 beam, 3 m draft and 80 tons of displacement. She has been active till 1987 in fishery in the cold often rough North Sea at Danmark. After that she was sold to a Dutchman who took al fishing gear of and used it as it was, meanwhile looking for a buyer. The Dutchman sold Silverland in 1991 to a American who lived in the Netherlands. The American had Silverland for a long time working on it to convert her to private sailing vessel. He never finished but did a lot of work on Silverland like making new decks, some deck beams, the deckhouse and other thingswhta he did he did well. He neglected the underwater ship and other things and stopped working on her and Silverland was not able to move on it self anymore, the engine was in parts, the wheel house whas gone. Silverland layed sadly for years unused and abandoned on the cay. For us a opportunity to buy a cheap ship that we could build up. In 2009 we saved Silverland from a sudden death with a good spirit to get the job done. The plan was to go sailing and explore kite and surfspots all over the world. Marco has always been a general engineer and carpenter and had the skills and tools to restore the hull, putt the engine back together and run again after 10 years, made all the cabins, made all electrical, water and fuel systems etc etc. And put her under sail and did plenty more work. This took Marco 4 years of hard work with some help when needed. Silverland is now in good condition but painting is an ongoing thing on every steel or wooden seagoing vessel. So much more to tell butt that’s for later. Silverland has a big water maker to use endless fresh water, wash machine, hot water, freezer,2 toilets,2 showers, plenty 220v. Bread maker, oven. We have 4 cabins with 9 beds, engine room and deckhouse with sofa and dining table, galley and all the navigation. See more at sailing-silverland.nl To keep a ship like Silverland in good condition it needs, next to sailing and to be used, attention and maintenance. We are looking for someone who likes to help Marco with this. While Marije is homeschooling Mathies in the morning, Marco takes care of the boat and he likes to work with someone instead of working alone. 4 hands have more fun than 2! In November Silverland will be for 3 weeks on land in Tahiti to do the yearly paint and maintenance of the hull. In December we sail back in to the Tuamotus to sail around there and in February we will be for cyclone season in Gambier which is very beautiful, remote, and untouched and the most easterly island group of French Polynesia. Beginning of April 2018 we go to Marquises and Tuamotus and after to Tahiti again.
