SOUTH AMERICA'S SUMMER CRUISE: Argentina, Falklands-may protected ideal anchorages and diverse wildlife, Tierra del Fuego-Cape Horn/Beagle Channel's spectacular glacier circuit, historic Matellan Strait, scenic Chilena 1500 miles of inside passages , nightly anchorages, through a myriad of islands/channels and sounds-detur to visit Torre del Paine world famous Park, then a different world of pastoral small island communities in an inland sea setting with those massive snow/glacier capped Andean volcanoes nearby. Voyage aboard a vessel well prpared and outfitted for this passage. A Colin Archer style well insuilated and heated 38ft Wm Garden ketch. His Seal design that has been now around 200,000 miles with this passge making my/our 3rd worl trip and others to the Arctic of Norway and the Antarctic-South Georgia and others. -my 8th though this world unique cruising region on my world veteran-this voyage completes my third circumnavigation. Now around 200,000 miles of proven performance from the Antarctic Island of South Georgia to the Arctic of Norway, Alaska, Aleutians and Japan too. It's an opportunity for an adventurous, experienced but pátient and committed preferably lady sailor-vintage issue fine but active for skiff use (relationship not sought). Enjoy short coastal /sheltered channel sails-at times challenging too-around the tip of South America and with a weather window of usual summer north quadrant winds short 2 day passages for our Falkland Islands visit. Snow shoes not required but bring good hiking boots for those frequent anchorages and shore exploits and a fine camera for those many pengin , birds and other wildlife that are present . A Cruising destination not usally explored . Safety too and after thoise 7 trips north thru the Chilean Patagonian Channels two things stand out-Patience and weather. Without one you best not worry about the other as you'll get into lots of trouble. Nice to wait and enjoy your snug evening anchorage until conditions are right. Financial package is favorable too as this voyage on the larger expedition vessels can be several hundred dollars a day! But be prepared to lend a hand and offer ideas where you{d like to see too. Below are more details for those interested. SOUTH AMERICA´S SUMMER VOYAGE: PATAGONIAS-ARGENTINA & CHILE, FALKLAND ISLANDS, TIERRA DEL FEUGO Experienced, adventurous, dedicated, patient lady sailor preferred (relationship not sought). Early summer (mid Dec) departure(Uruguay) sail: Argentine's arid coast of eastern Patagonia; ocean passage to view the E and W Falkland Islands with its many superb sheltered anchorages and their diverse wild life of penguins (4 species) , seals and birds (over 150 variety like the black browed albatross with an 8 foot wing span; southern Tierra del Fuego and surrounding islands-Alpine gem Stanton Island-Caleta Hoppner onoe of the world's most spectacular-including the narrow entrance) , Horn Island (Cape Horn), World famous Beagle Channel and mastic snow andfield capped Darwin Cordillera with the world famous glorious glacier circuit , southern most communities;- then off to the north- historic , windy Strait of Magellan; 1500 miles of Chile's Patagonia Channels through an ever changing glorious scenery-bare glacier carved peaks and icefields through Yosmite like valleys of waterfalls and rivers. Further north through less severe scenery of vast rain forest and heavily timbered mountains and always those welcomed evening anchorages everywhere; detours planned-Puerto Natales to visit the Torre del Paine Park and those 2000 m high domes, azure lake and bluish glaciers, and also explore Estero Peel (Tillman's fame)that cuts deeply into the heart of Patagonian ice cap, Campo Del Hielo Sur; Reach the large 100 mile long Chiloe Isla end of April or early May Chiloe's inland sea sheltered from Pacific storms with small and large pastoral communities and always those soaring 8000 ft snow and ice clad volcanoes of the Andes-what a scenic opportunity for youir camera!. Arrive Puerto Montt, Chile early May -capital of the beautiful Lake District of southern Chile. Ideal place for extending your S. American odyssey-by bus. If you're still aboard on arrival and not doing a solo across the Andes with the snow shoes aboard more for display than use), I'll cover your return air fare (female crew only) BUT YOU HAVE TO ARRIVE FIRST! Help with boat management especially in the many anchorages-possibly a 75 or so--that includes shore lines and boat's control , and a few night watches along the east coast too., Give a hand in the galley as my cookinig is quite plain and help with light boat maintenance. Definitelyi not for a backpacker looking for a free trip but a dedicated sailor interested in the voyage as that might incluyde the following tri: (not necessarily important now) . Plans for the Pacific: Best depart Chile Oct-stops Robinson Crusoe, Easter, Pitcairn (?), Margareva Gambier), Tahiti,(et. al). Cook, Tonga, Fiji or perhaps to Vanuatu PNG Palau, Phil. Japan/Korea and , Alaska (Aleutians, Pen. and Gulf to SE by Oct.). Winter in Japan possibly I wonder where else you're ever going to find this oportunity-S. Amerioca, Paicific, Japan, Alaska . Not only almost for only a small living expense for food but aboard a vessel and with a skiper that's been this route before---well this will be my 2nd time on the Japan Alaska segment--others up to a half dozen times but more for Patagonia, et. al. . For additional information see my old blog www.getjealous.com/svfaraway Required reading for the trip south see Jill's excellent blog www.mollymawk.com my email address is [email protected] Thank you foir readig this far!! Sincerely John Williams SV FARAWAY Home Port Sitka Alaska Now moored Piriapolis, Uruguay
What roles/experience are needed (Crew 1): does not matter
Sailing with a Rally:
I'm looking for (gender): Female
Cabins/Sleeping : own cabin-own bunk
Smoking on board: non-smokers only
Total people on board: 2
Crew roles: Prefer help in the galley as I{m a better dish washer than cook ! Light maintenance always appreciated then there's the vessel. It's a long walk across the Andes so best keep her in the Channels. Assist with navigation and selection of choice places though after 7 transits of the Chilean Patagonian Channels I know what tree to tie to. Taught Celestial Navigationo in College so if interested be willing to learn. But best be there in case you find me missing---overboard-- so come back! I met a sailor in the Phil. and this actually happened--she saved him and i'd hope the same from you. It's a voyage where you can stretch your legs and be away for a while and not cramped up for a long passage-like a recent stromy S. Atlantic passage of 72 days. Coastal sailing not the easiest but most interesting as this voyage certainlyi is. And oh yes be patient as safety here depends so much on weather and being patient you'll not rush out into some bad weather. Dedicated to the voyage and enjoy reading other's accounts-Darwin's voyage of the Beagle make great reading as does Slocums classic--Both aboard so should enjoy reading as I do a lot . OH, another thing don't get tired of me talking about weather. You'll learn all the teminiology too. Thanks for your time. Ah yes, you should know how to manage a small skiff-----Avon here some 10 feet long --by oars --as engine is not practical with kelp in the anchorages--especially the Falklands..
Money: expenses shared equally
Travel to and from boat: negotiable
