I am buddy boating with another AMEL. Due to the complexities of an AMEL and not anxious to explain to/train new crew every 6 or 8 weeks I am looking for crew with: A) "off shore" sailing experience and B) able to absorb AND retain quickly the AMEL specific sailing principles so we can leisurely cruise & buddy boat with another AMEL the CARIBBEAN for 2 more seasons before continuing to the PACIFIC side of the continent to our final destination (for both boats) the SEA OF CORTEZ. Our planned route is, so far, from ANTIGUA/GUADELOUPE sailing all over the CARIBBEAN, make in April 2027 a stop in LE MARIN MARTINIQUE for maintenance by AMEL and then continue to cruise the CARIBBEAN to end up most likely in GRENADA for the 2027 hurricane season. Then December 2027 we will, again, cruise all over the CARIBBEAN with a maintenance stop in LE MARIN MARTINIQUE and via a 3 or 4 weeks (June 2027) stop for diving in BONAIRE we will end up in CURACAO for the 2028 hurricane season. From CURACAO in November 2028 via COLOMBIA, SAN BLAS ISLANDS move via PANAMA thru PANANA CANAL (early 2029), either via HAWAII or via COSTA RICA, NICARAGUA, EL SALVADOR and GUATEMALA to the GULF OF CORTEZ in MEXICO. Of course, as mentioned earlier, this is a multi season "project" as we are not bound by schedules & obligations and will have several "shore breaks". Need somebody on board who is an ABSOLUTE EXPERIENCED deckhand and understands & enjoys the cruising lifestyle, understands & accepts that sometimes conditions necessitate staying in a location longer than planned/desired etc.; not getting seasick; realizes & appreciates we are cruising NOT racing nor delivering a boat - we are not constantly adjusting & trimming sails to get better/maximum performance out of the boat. Somebody capable holding their own opinion w/o being argumentative; being able to have a good discussion etc. I am really not good at meaningless small talk; prefer an "intimate" silence while reading a book (I read a lot on my Kindle) etc. over just senseless blabbing. Hahahahaha - maybe not nice to say but straight forward to avoid misunderstandings. That said, it is extremely important to me to be able to laugh & have fun while doing this cruising; after all, the main objective is to have a good time. Somebody able & willing to participate in every aspect of cruising: watches, provisioning, navigation, cleaning, COOKING (I really don't like/enjoy cooking hahahaha; am more a fan of eating than preparing but will cook from time to time) etc. Somebody PRO-ACTIVE, able to clearly communicate, understand the importance of keeping other crew and skipper informed/aware of what's happening/status of the boat (whether on watch or not, turning over watches etc.), express concerns/opinions etc. Safety ALWAYS comes first. After this, good sailing means to me feeling safe AND being comfortable on board which then allows for fully enjoying the life style of diving, snorkeling, the stars above at night, the smell of the ocean, and the sound of the wind and the waves. AGAIN, after speaking with several candidates, I like to emphasize that our style of sailing is CRUISING; meaning we are NOT sailing/moving every day, we are a living on board of a boat: with a lot on anchor/mooring or marina etc. If we like an island we might move from anchorage to anchorage. Also sailing in the CARIBBEAN, opposite to SOUTH PACIFIC, means only short (less than 3 or 4 day) passages - most of the time just a day sail. I will pay for ALL boat related expenses (fuel, maintenance, marinas, moorings, boat entry permits etc.). Crew responsible for their own travel to & from the boat, all their own necessary entry/exit visa's/permits, their own shore expenses etc. AND willing & able to fairly share the costs of daily victuals while on the boat.
