Velvet Adventure Sailing wants 3 crew for Velvet Lady, Oyster 55, 17m.

From Quita Do lorde, Madeira to Ponta Delgarda, Portugal.

March 2017 to April 2017.

There are 550 nautical miles of open North Atlantic ocean between Madeira and the Azores Island of San Miguel. In March, the wind blows mainly from the north , varying between north west and north east. This often leads us to do quite a lot of tacking and gybing on the way and we may arrive in San Miguel with the log reading well over 700! This is not a course but a real chance to give you a taste of ocean sailing and to learn by experience. To add to the adventure we aim to stop at two other Atlantic Islands on the way – Porto Santo to the North East of Madeira and Santa Maria to the south of San Miguel.

Velvet Adventure Sailing is currently based in United Kingdom

Crew roles: You will learn about the weather – how to obtain forecasts, read weather maps and watch the barometer. More importantly you will also learn how to just ‘deal with what you get’. By participation you will find out about on board maintenance schedules and long distance catering. We are happy to teach the wonders of navigating by the stars, use of a sextant and how the GPS works! If you’ve done lots of sailing and the occasional night at sea – this is the perfect opportunity to try a longer passage and see if its for you. If you have recently completed the Ocean Yachtmaster theory course but are not yet ready for a passage as watchleader this is the trip for you. Learn about the practicalities of passage planning and passage making without it being your responsibility. Have your first go with a sextant with no pressure! Lin is both an instructor and examiner for this qualification and happy to share with you her knowledge gained through years of experience.
