[ Archived ] Limited-southern Chilean sector Beagle Channel Tierra del Fuego cruise Chile to Chile ref 7602
John Williams wants 2 crew for FARAWAY2, 48 ft steel schooner, 15m.
From Puerto Deseado, Arg., Chile to Ushuaia , Argentina, Chile.
March 2017 to April 2017.
I'll try this limited cruise opportunity as the entire cruise around southern S. America that I've recently previous posted is perhaps too lengthy to attract much interest. In this limited voyage you'll still enjoy the splendid world class scenery of the Beagle Channel and with the detours planned reach the crising Everest -by an inner route-Cape Horn and visit the southern most communities Ushuaia and across the Beagle in Chile, Puerto Williams. . Beagle's Glacier circuit is indeed the high light of many world cruises. This voyage being near the completion of my 4th world circuit including voyages to both the Antarctic Island of South Georgia and the Arctic of Norway. I can attest to that. Yes, for almost any world cruise the magnificent alpine scenery of the region with it's many tide water glaciers and cascading glaciers from the ice fields above-like the spectacular Cordillera Darwin and Mt Sarmiento is bar none spectaclar. We'd crise the region for about a month or if your time is short less.. first is a coastal cruise in a different world--along dramatic bleak and barren coastal plain of eastern Argentina's Patagonia. Sopme 400 miles brings us to an alpine setting of Stantoon Island that lies just off the eatern tiip of Tierra del Fuego. Caletta Hoppner is our goal here- a very secluded and snug anchoarge near the eatern end of Santon Island. Waterfall around and even a few sea Otters make the visit memorable. Cascding glaciers ito deep fjords wioth their shimmering bluish sheen when suuny makes for a cmaera's dream world. Also for supplies there's Ushuaia the worlds' southern most city and with it's fine international airport aeasy to find a flight out. Limited yes but if your time is short an idea to consider. Hope to see ou soon but as time is an essence here I'd have to have an immediate reply.Departure around the first of March for this cruising opportunity. . .

Crew roles: The concern about staying here in Puerto Deseado waiting for crew to arrive has proven almost a disaster. The port is unsafe for most prevailing winds. I have so many anchors out that I think i'm alright. why here--well being held in port as flares were outdated. Trouble is Argentina doen't have one of the flare types required I found the two reqired but bought them from a fishing vessel concern . They just were not available evven in BsAs. Your duties will be helping to get anchors and shore lines in, helming and keeping watch as the coast is best travelled with the least safe sea room required for safe passagge-say 3 miles or so. Excellent weather forecast are good here so that could change. anyway, help with helming, , sail management and anchor ceployment once in the Beagle region. You'll learn lots about weather as that is so important to safe cruising here. Also great hking ops to in the south. financially I'd cover half your cost on your R/T airfare for this limited sgment. All cost aboard are covered tough It's a triip that copst thousands and wold not have the learning opportunities and time that this crise offers. Open for either males or females Thanks for your time. John Williams SV FARAWAY Home port Sitka, Alaska
