The Voiles de St Tropez is one of the most prestigious regattas in the Mediterranean. Both ultramodern yachts and rare wooden yachts participate in it. It attracts sailors from all over the world to get together in the beautiful bay of Saint-Tropez to find out who is better. Yachtmen and women of all levels, including beginners, partake in this exciting regatta. The origins of the regatta began by a happy coincidence at the end of September 1981. An American couple who had a Swan linger, arrived in Saint-Tropez after having taken part in the Swan Cup in Porto Cervo. They took part in a few SNST regattas, got to know people and, one fine day, when the owner talks about his success in regattas, the 12 Meter Ikra makes its entry into the port. Someone then said: “And Ikra , do you think you could beat him?” Immediate response: “Why not, if Ikra accepts the challenge.” The Ikra skipper, agrees to go out for a regatta the next day. What started as a crazy challenge between a Swan 44 and a 12 Meter JI has grown significantly since.
