Fastnet Race 2017 ----------------- The Rolex Fastnet Race is one of the most exhilarating and toughest races, it only comes round once every other year . The Royal Ocean Racing Club’s (RORC) famous race takes a 609 mile course from Cowes on the Isle of Wight towards the Fastnet Rock lighthouse off Southwest Ireland, before going round the rock and heading back to the finish line in Plymouth. This is a race with a lot of history (from 1925) and one that requires every ounce of each team members’ energy and commitment in order to achieve a good result. About 300 yachts join. And there is a big party on arrival. --------------- Our Fastnet package is not just the Fastnet race; it is a full offshore race training campaign. With 1200 till 1500 miles of offshore sailing, three offshore races and five training days, this is a great opportunity to learn new skills and accomplish personal goals whilst challenging yourself to the very limits. As a team, we will be competing in one of the most demanding yacht races in the world and we need crew who are ready for the challenge. To join us, you do not need to have a long sailing or racing background: we are looking for team members who are enthusiastic, motivated and committed. Experience, qualifications and racing skills are not a pre-requisite. Full training is provided and keen team players of any ability are welcome. This is a campaign that combines fun with comprehensive learning and genuine racing knowledge,like passage planning, racing tactics, meteorology, logbook entrys, sail handling, spinnaker, watch keeping and living aboard. ---------------- Fastnet Race qualifying – At least 50% of the Fastnet crew must complete 300 miles of RORC racing on the same yacht to enter the Rolex Fastnet Race 2017 but we would like the whole crew to qualify. --------------- All students take part in the Vuurschepen Race (120 miles) from Scheveningen to Harwich, England, and the North Sea Race (180 miles) Harwich back to Holland. Start of the Vuurschepen Race is on tuesday 23rd of may 2017 at 19:00 from Scheveningen, back on saturday the 27th of may. ----------------- 5 training days as preparation. Practical training but also theory like navigation, meteo etc. ------------------- A last practice is done during the trip from Amsterdam to Cowes, Isle of Wight. A two day trip, starting on wednesday the 2nd of august. ------------------ Summary: --- Preparation, skippering and coaching done by a professional RYA Yachtmaster Ocean Instructor, more than 40.000 sea miles ervaring, Skippered the Fastnet in 2005, 2009 and 2015. A fast , comfortable and safe Yacht. 41 ft with 3 double cabins. Participate in racing but with good food and good sleep. Our philosophy is that a happy crew is capable of achieving better results. The yacht complies to ISAF Offshore Regulations category II. A max of 6 candidates. So lots of time for personal contact with the instructor. Three races: Vuurschepen Race, North Sea Race, and Fastnet Race. Delivery of the yacht to the Isle of Wight (obligatory) Delivery of the yacht after the race back to Amsterdam 20 intensive sailing days 1200-1500 Sea miles in your logbook You are not a passenger. We change roles every now and then so all students learn all aspects of Offshore racing. And you recieve a official RYA certificate after the race. RYA day skipper or RYA coastal skipper. Food, drinks and harbourfees, 22,50 euro per person per day. Sleeping in shared cabins.
