Francis Maube wants 2 crew for Charisma, Vagabond 47, 14m.
From Vuda Marina, Fiji to Opua, New Zealand.
September 2016 to December 2016.
Departure from Vuda Marina, on Viti Levu, Fiji Islands is planned for July 15th or thereabout. It will be an easy sailing trip mostly at day time and occasional night till November 2016. Charisma will then sail across the southwestern Pacific Ocean to Opua, New Zealand, a 7 to 8 days trip and continue onward to Auckland and various places in NZ. The route in Fiji is weather dependent, there are 300 islands so spoiled for choice, we’ll pick up the anchorages according to prevailing winds. The area of interest are the Yasawas, Blight waters, Taveuni, The Lau group, Kadavu and many more islands on the way.
What roles/experience are needed (Crew 1): Watch-leader
What roles/experience are needed (Crew 2): does not matter
Sailing with a Rally: Independent
I'm looking for (gender): either
Cabins/Sleeping : shared cabin-own bunk
Smoking on board: smoking allowed
Total people on board: 5
Crew roles: Experience is a great thing, so competent crews will have an edge. Having said that I value willingness to learn and to participate which does not mean no experience at all. A little previous exposure to sea, ability not to get sea sick at the first wave and an open mind will do just fine. Crews are expected to perform the following duties: • Help sailing the boat in any way required, I will of course coach to the best of my ability and there is no such thing as a stupid question. • Hold watch day or night, again with adequate coaching and instructions. • Share the cooking and dishwashing, if you cannot cook, you will be stuck with dishwashing. • Help keeping the boat clean and clutter free. • Help with provisioning and fuel taking, which means physical handling. • If you haven’t got a sense of humor, you might develop a taste for it after a while. • If you are a diver you will enjoy the freedom of diving just about anywhere as long as the weather cooperate. Having said that there are no surface support so safety takes a new aspect that I have honed over the years, strict adherence to the procedures are non-negotiable. Potential crew who do not feel up to any of the tasks above, please point it out when applying not once you are onboard. It would be a good idea to check flight availability and cost before contacting me for further details. Illegal drugs are of course prohibited on board, that could land me into a lot of trouble. Bear in mind that as far as local authorities are concerned the skipper is ultimately responsible for crew’s behavior, safety and health, making my life easier will be much appreciated. I do not run a commercial venture so I am not looking for profit, at the same time I do not want to be out of pocket. I take care of all the provisioning, repair, maintenance, all cost directly related to the boat such as mooring fees, port dues, berthing and fuel expenses. The share for a crew works out at USD25 per day per person with an additional USD10 per dive for tanks, weight and refill. Should the crew wish to use my spare scuba set that would be USD5 per dive, bear in mind size for wet suit and fins. That will cover, (healthy, quality, fresh) food, drinking and general use fresh water that has to be produced with the generator and water maker, soft drinks/juice, extra wear and tear, berthing, bedding, access to onboard pharmacy in case of need, foul weather gears and so on. The crews remain solely responsible for cost of visa, park fees when and if applicable, and travel to and from place of boarding and leaving the boat and well as food and drinks consumed onshore. Alcoholic drinks are OK on board within reason; the cost is not included in the daily share.
Money: daily contribution from crew $25
Travel to and from boat: crew pays
