[ Cancelled ] BVI to South Carolina Virgin Islands - British to United States ref 8354
Chris Howell wants 4 crew for Nosotros, Beneteau 43, 13m.
From Road Town, Tortola, Virgin Islands - British to Myrtle Beach, United States.
November 2017 to November 2017.
I'm purchasing a 2005 Beneteau 43 (tri-cabin), in the BVI and will be flying there very soon to finalize the sale and begin preparations for a voyage to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. EDIT: Circumstances, and prudence...dictate that although the boat will still be purchased next week...it will remain in the BVI over the summer (possibly on land). This will allow more time and flexibility for upgrades and other preparations necessary for a safe passage to the U.S. An arch off the stern supporting ~600W of solar panels, and additional battery storage, upgraded energy-mgmt. system, radar, AIS, etc. are just some of the items planned. The passage is now planned for early November. I'm open to either island-hopping the route, or a straight-shot cruise with continuous shifts, and open to other suggestions. If you have a significant other or even a family you'd be interested in bringing along to make it an inexpensive adventure for you and yours...I'm open to ideas. I have Scuba certification and have yet to dive anywhere in the Caribbean yet...but by no means have to spend time doing that during this trip, though I will have all my gear with me.
What roles/experience are needed (Crew 1): Captain
What roles/experience are needed (Crew 2): Watch-leader
What roles/experience are needed (Crew 3): does not matter
What roles/experience are needed (Crew 4): does not matter
Sailing with a Rally: Independent
I'm looking for (gender): Male
Cabins/Sleeping : own cabin-own bunk
Smoking on board: non-smokers only
Total people on board: 2
Crew roles: With about 25 years sailing 30 and 42-foot yachts (another 10 on medium/large runabouts as a young man), very little is truly offshore (Lake Ontario, Cayuga Lake in NY, and mostly Chesapeake Bay out of Annapolis). I'm hoping to find someone more experienced and familiar with the Northern Caribbean to assist me with this transport. You can be Captain (I'll be 1st Mate), or we can be co-Captains...whatever works. I'll certainly entertain having another member if suggested As many sailboat captains are, I'm basically a 'McGyver' type and have substantial experience with engines, electrical, electronic, plumbing, etc. Give me a knife, coat-hanger and roll of duct tape and there's nothing I cannot fix! Can cook too. Recently purchase a Raymarine E125 MFD that I'll be bringing to the boat. Hoping to purchase a Raymarine Quantum radar dome to install on the mast as part of preparations. Will be up there anyway to replace a few pieces of standing rigging and see why the anchor light is failing. Might just put a tri-color up there. I'll be bringing a laptop (or 2), an iPad Air 2 64GB, Iridium 9555 satellite phone with spare battery and antenna extension. Boat does not have an EPIRB yet, but will get that and an AIS transponder and other related safety gear including jacklines and lanyard/tethers, etc. No skimping when it comes to safety! My wife and I recently sold our home in Washington, D.C. and have relocated to an area near Myrtle Beach to help my aging parents out (and get away from the craziness of D.C.). I'm an independent IT consultant who has taken off several months during this transition, though I still travel D.C. about once a month to help clients there. My interests have always been wide and varied and can hold a conversation with almost anyone on just about anything. My wife will likely not be joining us. Finally, the "Money" section needs a 'negotiable' selection. I generally consider this to be something of a paid position, but with some flexibility...especially since I'm not sure what to expect as far as payment.
Money: captain pays all expenses
Travel to and from boat: negotiable
