[ closed ] Atlantic Crossing Cape Verdes to Saint Lucia ref 10915

Dave Stanley wants 2 crew for Selkie, Bavaria 37, m.

From Mindelo, Sao Vicente, Cape Verdes to Rodney Bay, Saint Lucia.

to .

We (that is, my wife and I) are looking for one or two crew members to sail with us from Sao Vicente in the Cape Verde islands to St. Lucia in the Caribbean. We were sailing to St. Lucia with ARC 2020, but were forced to divert to Cape Verde for autopilot repairs. These are now complete, and we are ready to set sail as soon as we find suitable crew. I have about 4000+ miles, including offshore experience, as I sailed the boat down to the Canaries from Portsmouth in the summer of 2017. I would consider myself to be RYA Yachtmaster Offshore level. My wife however, is a beginner, so I would like to find at least one crew member who is experienced and trained up to at least day skipper level or equivalent, coastal skipper would be even better. That would leave us a vacancy for another crew member to be someone who wants to come along for the ride or the experience. We are completely flexible as to nationality, ethnic and cultural background, gender, age, etc. The only stipulation that I make is that we would like non-smokers only please. My wife is Russian so speaks two languages. But I only speak one, although we are both trying to learn Spanish, we are both a long way from the stage where we could hold a conversation with a native Spanish speaker. So we would have a communication problem with anyone who could not speak either English or Russian! You must be able to get to Cabo Verde within the next week, and submit to a Covid test here. Finally, it's worth mentioning that I am a keen astro-navigator, so crewing for us would be a good opportunity for someone to learn this art and practice it in a real at sea environment, if anyone is so inclined. I also get a kick out of teaching it to people, so you won't need any prior experience of it at all.
