John Williams wants 1 crew for FARAWAY2, 48 ft steel schooner, 15m.

From Puerto Deseado Arg., Chile to Puerto Montt, Chile.

February 2017 to May 2017.

This is a continuation of a world trip having left Chile in June of 2014 and as conditions were not favorable for the Pacific circuit via Japan to Alaska continued west from the Phil. Is. via Indian Ocean Madagascar, Mozambique Channel, South Africa and a winter crossing of the South Atlantic from Cape Town to Piriapolis , Uruguay Boat maintenance and sail repair done it was off to the patagonia of eastern Argentina--a region of stark beauty of barren plains and vast horizons of wild and desolate terrain and now having just arrived Puerto Deseado for a crew change and supplies and some other matters ro discuss in the international press. For the next approx. 400 miles of beach sailing until we reach to go to some fantastic scenic and yes at times challenging cruising regions of southern Tierra del Fuego including the Beagle Channel glacier circuit of the SW and NW arms; the furthest southern city of the world-Ushuaia- and if time permits and weather too a detour around Caoe Horn--inside route. To the north Magalanes, a the Chilena Patagonia Channels. with late March and April giving the best possible weather for this passage we'll have a snug anchorage to rest and enjoy the magnificent surroundings. The inside passages --- myriad of channels, islnds, fjords, and sounds that comprise this unique cruising region are more and more being discovered by the world cruising folks. . This being my 8th circuit I can attest to how unusually scenic and exciting this region is. . A trip you'll always remember. Puerto Montt the end of this Patagopnian section-- is in the Lake district Chile and is a superb region to start your own Chilean experience if you like visiting the many pastoral islands of Chiloe's inland like sea and with soaring volcanoes od the Andes always nearby a spectacular egion for land travel. The Pacific Circuit would begin in Oct. and would not necessarily be a part of this voyage. This segment begins immediately no later than say third week of Feb. and would end early May. Weather windows are reqired to make a safe and enjoyable voyage in this southern region. I have not been pleased with my crew selections for this tri south. . The voyage down this coast has been difficult-weather is difficult with some strong gale force head winds. Ports are difficult to enter-especially here---this being the last I'll enter along this immediate coast. -- and the officials are not friendly to yachts. fines for the least of troubles are usual. Yes, Argentina amongst the 70 different countries I've visited ranks the poorest as yacht-governent interference. I having been fined $250 for some flares this county doesn't even have. Yes this adv. has appeared here before with the Falklands being included. Summer weather makes returning from there very difficult for my vessel hence best visit some other time--I've been there twice and enjoyed it but not that much!So For those who have expressed interesd in my voyages the position is open again. I need a crew who can leave her (no relationship) or his lifestle behind and adapt to cruising life styles. Hence you should have some ocean experiece. Also some crew have not been able to move around readily to aid in sail and skiff operation. So you need to be fit and be able to give more than just words --the last one disparaging words at even in the worst of conditions when anchoring near a channel nor should you be doing all yourself with no notice to me what you are doing. i guess above all be interested in the trip, its spledid scenic attractions. not just for added sailing milesd but for a trip of a life time. With those thoughts why not write me for more information. very favorablr financial package but you have to go the disdtance--to Puerto Montt before I''d cover airfare cost. Food best be shared -- cost. I appolgise to those I didn't get back with but was probably out under sail then. do try again pleas More oe less a stranded sailor As nopt happy with crew leaving with no notice. . Thanks for reading all John Williams SV FARAWAY Sitka Alaska now in Puerto [Deseado , Argentina. .

Total people on board: 2

Crew roles: With about threee days of coastal or near coast sailing need to stand watch 3 hours. If under motor need to helm vessel . when under sail need to read a book! usual clean up is nice and why not give me a hand in the galley all crew (female preferred (no relationship ) or male) back as far as the Pacific I believe I did all the cooking. Sail handling that too. so need to know what a sheet line is and a halyard. though a ketch there are only a few to recall. Last fellow would never recall what a sheet was. he did speak German though. now you can learn lots but while learning you need to help too. German guy learned lots but didn't do much as to sail work though was good at helming you can do both. But again take an interest in the trip--Darwin was here and he sure as heck didn' ask questions but took an interest in all t hat is around here. Good idea for me too!
