[ Full ] ARC 2018 – Gran Canaria to St Lucia – Crew Couple Wanted Canary Islands to Saint Lucia ref 9843

James Aitken wants 2 crew for S/V L'Aureline, Prout 46, 14m.

From Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, Canary Islands to Rodney Bay, Saint Lucia.

November 2018 to December 2018.

Hi! We are James (male, Australian, 51) & Tanith (female, South African, 38). We are "doing the ARC" this Nov/Dec and are looking for 2 crew to join us in a 1-in-4 watchkeeping rota. We live aboard our boat full time and have converted all guest cabins to other purposes except the largest one, which is a double guest cabin with ensuite. This is why we are LOOKING FOR A COUPLE as you will be sharing the cabin. The ARC starts on 25 Nov and we would like you to join us in Las Palmas 7-10 days beforehand, so about 15-18 Nov. This will allow you to settle in, for us to get to know each other, for you to get to know the boat, and for us to get a few days sailing in to go through procedures before we head off. The trip across should take 18-21 days or so, depending on weather and the closing ceremony in St Lucia is on 22 Dec. You would be welcome to leave as soon as we arrive if you have other plans or equally welcome to stay onboard while we are in St Lucia, which is likely to be for Xmas but not for New Years day. We are NOT looking for you to pay for the experience and this is NOT a charter arrangement. You will only need to cover your own costs (like getting to Gran Canaria and from St Lucia), and shared costs directly attributed to you (such as food, your ARC registration fee, your share of mooring fees). If you are interested, please get in touch and give us a brief outline of who you are, what experience you have, any other skills you might have (sailing related or not - musician? chef? mechanic? scuba diver?), and why this sounds like a good fit for you. If you have specific questions for us please feel free to ask. We will communicate via email and arrange a video meeting via Skype if we all want to progress. Thank you for reading and, whether you join us or not, we wish you fair winds and a following sea.

What roles/experience are needed (Crew 1): Watch-leader

What roles/experience are needed (Crew 2): Watch-leader

Sailing with a Rally: ARC – Atlantic Rally for Cruisers

I'm looking for (gender): either

Cabins/Sleeping : own cabin-own bunk

Smoking on board: non-smokers only

Total people on board: 4

Crew roles: You will need SOME sailing experience ... hope that's not a surprise to you! Although you don't need to be massively experienced, you must have sailed before and be capable of steering a reliable course. We do have autopilot, but technology is not infallible! You should have spent successive days on a sailboat so you know what it is like in close quarters and your experience should be such that (both of) you can stand your own solo watches, both night and day. If you've never stood a night watch, but have plenty of experience keeping day watches, that might be OK. The boat is pretty easy to sail and the sails can all be trimmed without leaving the cockpit. Everyone will contribute to the necessary realities of living onboard, such as cooking and cleaning, again on an equal and rotating basis. Aside from that, a sense of humour, a willingness to pitch in, and being easy to get along with are just as important as sailing experience and credentials in terms of how we will all get along together in close quarters for 3 weeks!

Money: expenses shared equally

Travel to and from boat: crew pays
