Additional details
Purchased this 1985 Tayana 37 in June 2013. Sailed and motored from New Bern, NC up through Pamlico Sound to Norfolk via ICW canal. From there we sailed out to Cape Henry and north to our destination in Atlantic Highlands, NJ.
While most of the first two years were local, I did take Kuleana to Sag Harbor, NY solo (140nm) via NYcity and LI Sound. The return trip was with fellow sailor Bob Forman. The following years saw an engine rebuild and reworked plumbing for the head.
In Nov 2017 Kuleana was hauled for painting and other needed work including new prop and shaft, new bowsprit, hull, deck and varnish of teak. A new \"Plas Deck\" (imitation teak) deck was installed also. In July 2019 Kuleana was shipped to Port Charlotte by truck. She is still on land while many small and larger issues are being addressed. Those include the replacement of several thru hull fittings, repainting the mast, rewiring the mast, new running rigging, mounting the radome on the mast, bottom paint, etc.
Hoping to have Kuleana back in the water by November 2021. She will sail out of Punta Gorda, FL across the Peace River from Port Charlotte.
