Description

Galiana is a classic Swan 55 yawl, designed by Sparkman & Stephens in 1969 in New York and built by Nautor\'s Swan in Finland in 1970. The ocean racing boats designed by Olin Stephens to the CCA and RORC rules are known not only for their classic looks but also for their seaworthiness and comfortable movement in also bad conditions. Galiana went through a thorough refit at the Universal Marina in Hamble in 2000-2001 and again a very thorough one in Finland prior to the Ocean Globe Race 2023. Her interior is designed for long ocean passages in challenging conditions, e.g. all the bunks are aligned with the keel and can be made only 60cm wide at sea to give good rest regardless of the conditions, her rig, hardware and sails have been designed to take the punishment of the Southern Ocean. At the same time, the aesthetics of a 1970 classic have been looked after, Galiana is registered as a classic yacht by the Finnish Heritage Agency and the boat is eligible for most of the classic yacht events. She has been exhibited in the Classic Boat magazine. The yawl rig makes the boat fun to sail with the mizzen and also mizzen staysail when sailing downwind. We also have the 1970s/1980s special sail blooper, when sailing dead downwind.
