Competent Captain, have handled pretty much every scenario before. I have made two great friends from them crewing for me, one with very little experience. I am seen as smart, great under pressure and someone who never gets drunk or high; I'm a retired medical professional. Not drinking turns out to be an exceptional strength as a Captain, though I'm fine if you do within reason off shift. Boat maximized for comfort, with unlimited solar power, unlimited fresh water, huge freezer space and focus on effective fishing including use of outriggers to typically have plenty of fresh fish. Unusually strong focus on safety with two fully redundant navigation systems, radar, sonar and all forms of safety gear, EPIRB's etc. Crew has entire port side, two suites each with its own bathroom to themselves. This allows you to have your own space, which is key. Experienced crew know this, but new crew may underestimate that things not only "may" break on every significant trip, but in fact definitely will on all the long trips from this site. You need a captain who can handle it well. The major upside of this captain is I have installed or altered every system on the boat, with the tools know how, to overcome and finish the mission, which turns out to be very rare. There are better than me at boat systems, but not many and I know my limitations. This is almost unheard of, actually, because it takes a full lifetime to be good at this wide a variety of stuff and years of living on it to know a boat. What I learned I learned from professional boat tenders, but it will be rare to have those on these boats. Trying to be as forthcoming as possible, down side is there is always a significant chores list. Also, I learned with a chain of command mentality, so even though I always try to be kind, my kids definitely say I can be too blunt and will bark orders. That's how I learned, from military and British sailors, and I considered it to be respect, but it's no longer the PC way. I can be intimidating, though I try not to be. People who get to know me seems to actually enjoy my loyalty and empathy, while others write me off as rude. That being said, I really do try to be as patient and kind as possible, and my actual desire is to help you be confident and have fun. I can teach you and learn from you as much as you desire, and also give you your own space should you wish. On most trips you can have a lot of fun exploring new harbors by scooters and bikes, or doing SCUBA, since the goal is a fun journey as much as the miles. You will not get this on many other trips, often where a boat has to be moved for an owner who is either not there or whose priority is other than fun.
