I am a 66yr old fit healthy married retiree. I have sailed on and off all my life, starting in my early teens on dinghies, moving to hobies and windsurfers and started keel boat sailing in my early 30's. I have done lots of racing and offshore sailing in 24-54ft mono-hulls. One of my more memorable trips was crossing the Bass Straight in a 54Ft when she was in an ugly mood - 4-5M breaking waves and constant 40kts. My wife, Deb, and I bought our first cat in 2015, a 44ft Voyage, which took us up and down the Australian coast a number of times, across to Lord Howe Island which proved to be an 'adventurous' ride and a season cruising New Caledonia and Vanuatu. We sold her, and together with our new boat partners, Chris & Julie, we bought a Fountaine Pajot Helia 44 a couple of years ago in Bulgaria which we named Lowana (Aboriginal for beautiful woman). We spent last season in Turkey, Greece & Croatia. This year we have travelled west from Croatia, Greece, Sicily, France, Spain and will join the ARC in November 24. We are a pretty easy going crew who are enjoying the adventure of sailing in, and exploring, foreign countries. Between the 4 of us, we have some time together and sometime as separate couples and have a number of friends on and off Lowana spending a week or 3 with us. Our habits are swimming, kayaking, SUPing and going on shore to explore and eat - looking forward to the diving in Caribbean and South Pacific. We overnight at anchor and generally avoid marinas. We are social drinkers and Lowana is a non-smoking boat. | |
