I am an active fun loving sixty year old male. I've been in a quandary as to what I would do with my time when I retire in a few years time. The whole world lockdown pandemic thing gave me a bit of an epiphany last year in 2020. I decided to learn to sail, buy a boat and sail around the world. I am living in a nice place to start with in Thailand. We have more than 1400 islands. I am an engineer to trade, have been working at sea most of my life and spend probably half of the last 30 years at sea. But I had never been on a sailing boat. Until last year. I successfully completed my Bareboat Skippers and VHF offshore radio communications courses. I found out then that I love sailing. My work has taken me around the world more than once. Voyages have included South Korea to Singapore. Singapore to Mauritius. Mauritius to Brazil. Brazil to USA. I have spent many a cold night in the North Sea and West Of Shetland in Scotland or Brønnøysund in Norway, where the temperatures were minus 25 degrees C. Nothing has ever put me off going back to sea. My job is flexible so I have decided to try and fit in some sailing when possible during my time off. I have looked at the ARC rallies as a way to gain some experience and some sailing sea miles and hopefully I can fit in a couple of long distance voyages over the next few years by hitching a lift on a vessel across the Atlantic or Pacific or maybe something shorter. Paid or unpaid, it does not matter. In the meantime I am searching for my own boat to continue on into my retirement. I always have a very positive outlook on life and situations. My hobbies and loves include, music, sports, Travel (With a capital T), fishing, food, (eating and cooking), sailing, snorkeling and dancing. I love animals and I have a dog in Thailand called Henrik and some beautiful Koi Carp. This is just a rough scribble for now and I may add some more details later. If you would like to know any more, please feel free to contact me. And if you are sailing somewhere interesting I might just be able to help out and keep you company. Fair Winds. Alex from Scotland.
