From PIRIAPOLIS, Uruguay to PUERTO MONTT, Chile.
September 2016 to May 2017.
Cruise the southern tip of S. America and the Antarctic Peninsula and surrounding islands this spring and summer (southern Hemis.) A world seldom visited especially on your own vessel but one of such variety: Endless white mountains and glacier cliffs of the south, undescribable beauty of Lemair Straits, a few sheltered ice free anchorages with an abundance of whales, seals , penguins and birds but with a fragilke enviornment, unique history and ongoing resarch to be respected First the Rio de la Plata and the vibrant city life of Buenos Aires, then to the south the "wild west" of eastern Argentine Patgonia´s vast plains with occasional ports bays and coves offering shelter; then to the southern most city of the world, Ushuaia for supplies for the south. On return visit gorgeous, alpine settings of soaring tree clad mountains of the Darwin Cordillera and Beagle Channel´s many gorgeous tidewater glaciers. Then an unique cruising region of sheltered Chilean Patagonian Channels from Magelan in the south over 1200 miles to the pastoral settings of the large island Chiloe mand industrialk Puerto Montt in the north. Evening anchorages in snug coves -many in the south offering hiking opportunities. Yes, after my 7 previous transits of these channels to and from Cape Horn dayly planniing and patience is essential for enjoying the trip. Yes it does rain and gust can be unpleasant eskpecialliy with the presence of a frontal system . Close attentiion to the guide books commended anchorages and weather forcast from Chilean Met.
