CHALLENGE OCEAN wants 3 crew for ALBATROS, CHALLENGE 67, 20m.
From Lorient, France to Lorient, France.
July 2025 to August 2025.
Embark on the Rolex Fastnet Race 2025 as a crew member on this crewed yacht designed and built to race the BT Global Challenge. Organized by the Royal Ocean Racing Club, one of the most prestigious yacht clubs on the planet, the Rolex Fastnet Race is one of the biggest ocean races. An event that takes place once every two years, in odd-numbered years, departing from Cowes on the Isle of Wight. Since 2021 edition, the finish is judged in Cherbourg and no longer in Plymouth as in all previous editions. More than 450 sailboats from 9 to 30 meters will line up in July 2025 on the line of the Royal Yacht Squadron. A sumptuous exit of the Solent, most often tacking to reach the Needles. The regatta is sensational and tactical along the English coast before reaching the Archipelago of Scilly. Then it is the crossing of the Irish Sea to roll up the impressive rock of the Fastnet planted with its lighthouse. Then follows the descent on the Scilly to go up the Channel to Cherbourg. The duration of boarding is about 13 days, including the qualification of 300 nautical miles from Lorient and the return delivery after the race to Lorient. The race starts from Cowes on the Isle of Wight and ends in Cherbourg-en-Cotentin. Note that the outbound delivery from Lorient to Cowes will serve as a qualifying route for the crew and the boat, after agreement from the RORC. The Channel crossing for the return to Lorient will start from Cherbourg. At least 1/3 of the crew must have completed the World Sailing course (ex ISAF) which is valid for 5 years. The FFVoile license is compulsory with a medical aptitude for competition. Affiliated as “École Française de Croisière” with the French Sailing Federation, you can subscribe your Competition license with the CHALLENGE OCEAN Club.

Crew roles: We’re talking about a committed voyage where everyone plays an active onboard: 100% participative! Albatros is a cruising racing boat, with no autopilot or furlers on the headsails. Throughout the crossing, life on board is organised into three watches, also known as “shift”. These sailing watches change every 3 or 4 hours, for the smooth running of the ship as well as for stewardship and rest. Over and above the sailing, racing the Rolex Fastnet Race demands self-sacrifice and resilience. A competitive spirit is essential for such an event. You may have to put up with bad weather, cold at first, then heat. So you need to be psychologically and physically ready to take part in a sailing race.
Money: voyage cost $4700
