[ active ] ARC 2024 Canary Islands to Saint Lucia ref 15001

Gerry Williams wants 1 crew for Lowana, Fontaine Pajot, Helia 44, m.

From Las Palmas, Canary Islands to Rodney Bay, Saint Lucia.

November 2024 to December 2024.

UNFORTUNATELY LOWANA HAS HAD TO WITHDRAW FROM 2024. WE ARE PLANNING TO SAIL ARC 2025 Lowana is owned by 2 husband/wife couples - Deb & Gerry and Julie and Chris. We are a pretty easy going crew who are enjoying the adventure of sailing in, and exploring, foreign countries. We are social drinkers and Lowana is a non-smoking boat. To cross the Atlantic we have Gerry as skipper, Chris, Julie is a maybe and Deb will meet us in Las Palmas. We also have a friend, Pete who is an experienced sailor joining us. We are looking for another crew member who would become crew number 4 or 5 (if Julie does sail). For the ARC, Gerry will be the skipper as he is the most experienced sailor among the owners, however decision making will be a joint affair with Gerry having a final call if necessary. Whilst the ARC is a race, we are cruising and we will be there for the journey, not for a place, so any crew should expect to have the odd mid-Atlantic swim if the weather is very mild and we will not be looking to do sail changes after dark. What we are offering is a spot on the trip and hopefully a lifetime experience with some learning and some laughs along the way - you be treated as an equal to all others on board. As with all boats we expect that everybody will contribute in all things and will share the pleasure equally. Having said that, we are very open to skills or contributions which compliment, rather than just add to, our skills - see Crew Description. To clarify a couple of points in the questionnaire: Dates - we expect that you would arrive 4-6 days ahead of the start of the ARC. At St Lucia, we are happy for you to leave any time after arrival but the morning after the prize giving ie 21/12/24 would be the latest date to leave Lowana Financially we expect that you would pay a share of the ARC fee and we split all other expenses, so we are not looking for hitch-hikers. The entry fee is negotiable depending on what incremental value you bring to Lowana and the passage. Gender - we are open to either male or female, however we recognise that a female may be good company for Julie if she does sail and a healthy crew balance if she does not. Crew will have to have an open diet unless you take on a principal cooking role for all the crew.

What roles/experience are needed (Crew 1): does not matter

Sailing with a Rally: None

I'm looking for (gender): either

Cabins/Sleeping : own cabin-own bunk

Smoking on board: non-smokers only

Total people on board: 4-5

Crew roles: At a bare minimum you must have enough sailing experience that we know you will not be a burden either through sea sickness or something else preventing you from contributing, including underestimating the passage of time that you will be at sea. Deep sailing experience will obviously be well regarded, however electrical. mechanical, general handyperson and medical/first aid skills will be more highly regarded as we have sufficient sailing skill on board and being useful in a potentially difficult situation is great insurance. The ability and desire to cook will win you a lot of points with us. We would look favourably at anybody with proven ocean cooking skills who wishes to trade other responsibility for extra meal preparation.

Money: daily contribution from crew $65

Travel to and from boat: crew pays
