[ Archived ] Madeira to UK Madeira to United Kingdom ref 11117

Pete Townsend wants 1 crew for Jubilate Mare, Oyster 47, 14.3m.

From Funchal, Madeira to Anywhere on S coast, United Kingdom.

May 2019 to July 2019.

Today is Monday 22 April. ———— We left Home (Bristol UK) May 2017 as the first of several stages taking the boat via Plymouth, Baiona, Portugal and the Med / Mallorca and thence to the Canaries via Morocco & Madeira then on the ARC+ via Cape Verde, to Saint Lucia in November 2017 We then cruised right down, then up, the Caribbean. Grenada to the Virgins. We returned to Europe via Bermuda and the Azores, arriving in Portugal 14th June last year. Very good crossing, with the central bit taking under 13 days. Then we spent the last 6 months in the Med. Mostly Balearics & Spain. We have had crew for all the long and ocean passages. But enjoyment and learning by all is key to our trips. We are now in Madeira / Funchal, arrived via Morocco. Future timetables (ie passages or coastal hops) to be decided with the crew and the weather. However we expect to do 3-4 passages up to 8 days. We expect to finish in the UK by late June/July. Heading ultimately for a mini-refit in Ipswich. Expecting plenty of time to explore points of call. ————- We are recently retired (64 & 60). I have 30 or so years sailing, with four Atlantic crossings. RYA YM Offshore. Background (Pete) is engineering in resource industries, worldwide but mainly in Canada. Bee is a less-travelled sailor, sociable & chatty. But constrained by relatively poor eyesight. Loves musical theatre & performance. Four grandchildren. Boat is a long-distance blue water cruising yacht. Oyster 47. Well equipped. Six berths in three cabins, two heads & showers. Generator & all the usual home comforts. Microwave, freezer, watermaker, washing machine. (No a/c - but that hardly matters for this trip!). Conventional sloop rig. We are seeking companiable crew so we can do a relaxed trip with night passages. Bee cannot see well enough to do solo nights, so we expect to have 2-3 watches.(ie we two on W1, and two crew on W2), and probably solos according to experience. Max aboard will be 4 or maybe 5. So lots of room. Own cabin, shared heads. Ideally crew need to be open-minded, friendly, gsoh, solvent, flexible, not running away from anything, non-smokers (inside outside or anywhere else). No hang-ups or unsociable habits. No addictions of any sort, or users, recreational, philosophical, temporary or otherwise. Enthusiasm and willingness to muck in are important. As is sharing life. Five star gourmet chefs are welcome. As are musicians and singers! Crew are invited as sharing friends, not as employees. One crew will be designated as watch leader and must be capable of looking after the safety of the boat when the skipper is asleep. We are generally cautious, safety conscious, and not racers. On an ocean cruising boat balance and comfort are more important than the last 0.1 knots. For a trip of this length we propose €10 pppd provisioning costs which will cover everything aboard. This is not a commercial boat or in it for profit. We are in it to give back opportunities we ourselves had in earlier years. Owner pays all boat costs including maintenance, berthing and fuel. We are not a dry boat, except on passage or if bad weather is imminent. But non-smoking, even on deck. Crew pay own travel, any insurance required, and their on-shore personal expenses such as travel and meals out. We won’t muck people about. And thank you to those who are honest about their availabilities, abilities, disabilities, medical issues, and personal objectives. If we can meet those, so much the better! It’s also possible to join anywhere, or to stay aboard for a few days after the end. No problem. We are not in any rush. ————- We are committed to two crew until Madeira. One leaves there, (but may re-join in Azores). BUT I would very much like to hear from others who may be a good fit and who want to build miles, experience ocean passages, or just want a relaxed summer cruise with company. Flights to Madeira on many European airlines are cheap, especially if exact timing is not an issue. ————- Can you tell us all about yourself? Include availability, timing, motivation, constraints, background, career, medical conditions, sailing experience, qualifications, abilities, objectives, etc etc. etc. etc. We shall stay in touch over the next few days so all responders stay in the loop. We also realise that whoever comes, they will need to know soon, so we shall finalise things as soon as possible. Note dates are flexible. Include any questions with your reply.....
