Hello, my name is Will and I am looking to participate in the ARC 2023 from east to west. Having grown up on the coast in the UK I have spent much of my life on or in the water. I regularly sailed and raced dinghies at my local club and subsequently spent 3 summers in France working as a dinghy instructor. As such I have a sound knowledge of the principles of sailing. With regards to yachts, I took my RYA Day Skipper qualification in 2019, although I have not had many opportunities to get additional mileage under my belt since then. As such, I am confident that I would be a useful and safe crew member, even though I fully appreciate that I have much still to learn. I like to think that I am conscientious and a good listener, and easy to get on with. I am currently in Tangier and would be able to join a boat after 25th October in Spain, Morocco or the Canary Islands. In a perfect world I would like to take my disassembled bicycle with me, but this is not make-or-break. Other fun facts: I am a keen kitesurfer and musician, and a mechanical engineer. My most recent role at the UK Oceanography Centre involved designing autonomous submarines for deployment down to 6000m and under the ice sheets, to measure key climate change metrics, and monitor zooplankton, bathymetry and more. | |
