I'm one half of a sailing couple - the other is my wife, Malisa Neville, who also has a profile here. We are looking to sail together if possible and have similar sailing resumes/skills. I am currently an office-dwelling financial-type living in downtown NYC. We sail with friends in Long Island Sound, New York Harbor and the Hudson as much as possible on a variety of boats. We also bareboat charter, typically large catamarans in BVI and Croatia. We've certified for Coastal Cruising, Bareboat Cruising, Coastal Navigation, Cruising Catamaran, an International Certificate of Proficiency as Yacht Helmsman in Mediterranean Waters and US Sailing Offshore / World Sailing Offshore Personal Survival with Hands-On Certification. I'm also familiar with Navionics, Predict Wind and various nautical electronics systems. We've each logged ~50+ days at sea in the last year and are looking to log some serious miles towards a 100 ton master and just generally more experience further offshore. Aside from sailing, and prior to my life in a NY office, I grew up surfing in southern california, been an avid whitewater kayaker (I'm also swiftwater rescue certified), taught rock climbing in northern arizona, worked search and rescue in the grand canyon (at one point led the high angle rescue team), logged hundreds of hours hang gliding (read: staring at the wind and reading lift patterns in clouds) and a few other sports that instill the same "seamanship" mindset of being prepared, making good decisions, and reading your environment. These days I am married, pushing 50, self-contained, and looking for a low-key engagement on the right boat to quietly develop further with no drama. Passages are not from point A to B - they are the destination. Long term we aspire to circumnavigate on our own yacht, but we'd prefer to help you on yours first as we solidify our experience base. | |
