Hi everyone. Has anyone just purchased a Lagoon Catamaran (other cats are also an option) and do you need some own boat tuition? I have been onboard my Lagoon 400 S2 catamaran for 3 years and have sailed from Spain to Australia over that time which completes a circumnavigation for me which I started on a monohull in Australia some years ago. This brings my sea mile experience to over 40 000nm. I have gained a lot of knowledge that I can share with you and help you gain the confidence that you need to set sail. I am happy to assist on passages too to help you take the next step. I can cover most aspects and provide practical experiences that will help you understand your yacht, it's systems and how to sail it. Manoeuvring ------------------------- How to handle the catamaran under power Sail handeling Docking Engine Maintenance ------------------------- Spares you may need Changing the oil, oil filters, impellers etc. Changing the oil in a sail-drive and signs of problems. Explanation of how to clean the heat exchanger. How to replace the coolant. Replacing the starter belt. Heat extraction fan replacement. Generator ------------------------ Spares you may need. Changing the oil, oil filters, impellers etc. Replacing the anode. Hot Water Cylinder ----------------------- Spares you may need Identifying a fault When to change the anode When to change the element How to change the anode and element Steering ----------------------- Spares you may need Inspecting the steering system What do do in the event of steering cable failure Power onboard (I am not an electrician but can make recommendations on setup) ----------------------- Suggestions on solar, wind and hydro to generate power. Why not to stick flexible solar on your deck. Wind generator or not? What I learnt from other sailors and how this impacted my installation. Bilge pumps (Manual and electric) ----------------------- What spares to carry Maintenance Faults to look for Testing Why do you get water in your bilge when you shower and how to prevent it. (Lagoon catamaran) Toilet System ------------------------ What spares you may need How to replace the Joker valve? Where other valves may be located that can cause you problems. How to repair a blocked toilet. Holding tanks and how they work. Night sailing & what to expect ------------------------ Lights on the horizon & the reality of how these will look. Ship coming towards you. What to do. What to do when there is no response from the approaching vessel. Injuries at sea ----------------------- Injuries we had and how we dealt with them. Injuries that happened to other sailors around us. (spearguns, surfing, fishing etc.) Sailing with Children ------------------------ Boat schooling How will they enjoy it and are there other kids afloat? Entertainment onboard (Games, educational quiz nights etc) Adventures ashore. Learning without realising it. An amazing geography lesson. The above are some of the topics that I will cover and we can adapt these to help you where needed. If you are interested and would like to know more, please feel free to contact me. Thanks Shawn | |
