I have sailed 40,000+nm including two Atlantic crossings as crew, one Pacific crossing as owner (with just one additional crew) as well as deliveries from New Caledonia to Australia, Tahiti to New Zealand, UK to Portugal and UK to Gibraltar.
I am passionate about sailing having both raced and cruised, though now I am particularly interested in general blue water cruising, island hopping and most definitely the longer passages.
I’ve sailed the East and South Coasts of England, around to Wales and Ireland, the North Sea to Belgium, Netherlands and France and crossed the Biscay several times. I have sailed in Turkey, Greece, Spain, Florida, Bahamas, Caribbean, Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, Columbia, Panama and the Australian East Coast.
Over a period of 30+ years, I have crewed on many yachts of all sizes and owned 3 of my own, so I understand cruising from the crew, skipper and owner perspectives. Now, I am looking for crewing positions or even as skipper should an owner want me to take that role.
I am very practical and can fix most things including electrics, but not refrigeration. As a qualified Advanced scuba diver, and former rock climber, I am quite happy to dive the boat or go up the mast. I believe that good social skills and “fitting in” are essential and probably more important than actual sailing and technical skills. As a crew member, I always respect the authority of the skipper and the personal space of all on board.
I can provide references from owners with whom I have made major trips and who will attest to being surprised that I am so healthy and active, despite being 69 years of age.
Born in Wales, UK, I have travelled all over the world, lived in South Africa, Australia and for the last 7 years in Salzburg, Austria. As a retired International Group CEO, I am extremely flexible with respect to dates, locations and lengths of trips.
2018 Sailing in Greece, Sicily, Sardinia and Minorca.
2019 Eight weeks sailing in the French Polynesian Islands of the Tuamotus and Tahiti through to Bora Bora. That was followed by two weeks sailing in Turkey and three weeks in the Greek Islands.
2020 Sailing in Australia and just managed to return to Austria before the lockdowns. Delivery from the UK to Gibraltar.
2021 Delivery from England to Portugal (just the Owner and me) and then in two weeks in Croatia and two in the Greek Dodecanese.
2022. Delivery from Tahiti to New Zealand as well as sailing in Croatia, Italy and Greece
