| Full time live aboard/cruiser for 17 years; my wife no longer sails, so looking to continue as crew. Background - we sailed a Shannon 38 ketch(a high end American brand built in the state of Rhode Island) My background is a technical education with degrees in HVAC and Mechanical Engineering and 20+ years in various manufacturing industries. Also a MBA from the Harvard Business School. I hold an active Ham Radio/SSB radio license, call sign KI4TUL. Am mechanically inclined having always serviced the diesel aux engine myself. We sailed the east coast of N America(Nova Scotia to the Bahamas), across the Atlantic to Europe staying 6 years in European waters-Med, North Sea, Baltic Sea, including mast removal and taking our boat up the European canal system through France, Luxembourg, Germany and the Netherlands. Visited Mediterranean waters of Tunisia, Morocco, Italy, Spain, Portugal and France. Crossed back over into the Caribbean, visiting St Lucia south to Grenada, then west via Bonaire, Aruba, Venezuela, Columbia, Panama Canal, Ecuador, Galapagos, French Polynesia, Cook Islands, Samoa, Figi, New Caledonia, Austrailia(stayed 3 years) and New Zealand(stayed 2 years). Longest non stop crossing was 23 days. Having a wheel chair bound special needs niece, I can appreciate the efforts you are making to go on this trip. Having met and cruised with several families with children, I can tell you that this experience will do more for their development than any book knowledge or schooling.
