IMPORTANT UPDATE: I am immediately available for the ARC or the ARC+, with all required gear packed and ready to go, including AIS/MOB and can be at any departing destination in Europe within 24 hrs. This past August, I was selected to crew on the Antia, a 48 foor Viva class Italian made ocean racing cutter. After three weeks of crewing, including time spent working of the boat prior to departure, during the voyage from Catania Sicily to Las Palmas in preparation for the ARC, the owner/skipper Jason Ingram incurred severe injuries caused by a fall on the wharf. The entire crew has returned home including myself. References available on request. I am Canadian, married with two grown children and have lived for the past 33 years in Heemstede, just outside Amsterdam. I am recently retired having had a career in Finance here in The Netherlands. During my youth I grew up on Lasqueti Island in British Columbia where my dad and uncle had sailboats and I essentially grew up on boats, mostly sailboats. In my teens and twenties, I crewed professionally for 5 years as engineer on salmon purse seiners on the west coast of British Columbia. Particularly with regard to my experience on commercial boats, I am fully aware of the need for a calm, open and sociable personality able to perform under adverse conditions for long periods of time in a confined space. I also am very familiar with the importance of good food to keep a crew happy on a long haul. I am a great cook and fully equipped to assist in or supervise the vessel's provisioning. I am looking for an experienced skipper and am available for the ARC or ARC+ during the period October through December. I'm afraid I am not active on any social media other than LinkedIn which I hardly use. | |
