I grew up sailing dinghies (lasers and albacores), and would often crew for friends' parents' cabin cruisers on Lake Ontario. When I married in the 1990s, my husband and I lived on a 54' Hunter. I studied coastal navigation and eventually we sailed our boat from San Diego to Costa Rica where we lived for ten years. But an inland base and a growing family meant much less sailing. In 2007-08, I had extensive cruising experience in a passive role, which included standing watches, updating the logbook and essentially doing what I was told. So I am a capable sailor with lots of experience. I'm a little rusty, which can be remedied in the next few months, but I speak the lingo and I take instruction well. I have no interest in being in charge. My goal is to be a hands-on crew member for an Atlantic crossing with the security of a competent skipper. | |
