Johannes "Jopie" Helsen, Started sailing on the Kaag Lakes in Warmond, Netherlands in 1950's. Started ocean racing in 1962 in St Petersburg, Florida, USA and sailed in FORA, MORC and was the youngest sailor at the time in SORC, the international Southern Ocean Racing Conference which, back in the 60's, 70's and 80's was one of the most famous series at the time. Started designing and building boats in 1970 and built over 2,000 sailboats under the Montego, Helsen and Dutch Craft names. Started the Sailor’s Wharf Yacht Yard in 1978 www.sailorswharf.com which is being run by my great management team. Have cruised the Bahamas, Caribbean and Race 7 times to Mexico winning the 2018 monohull class. Joined the World ARC 2019 in St Lucia and sailed halfway to Mackay, Australia and dropped out to support my partner in SKY with her battle against lung cancer. The goal is to rejoin the World ARC 2020 in Darwin, Australia to finish the 2nd half of the world arc.
