I have been boating most of my life, both power and sail. I grew up on Galveston Bay which is where most of experience has been. I had my first real sailing experience in ’69-’71 on a friends 36 Pearson. We sailed for a couple of years between Kemah and Galveston and few trips out into the Gulf of Mexico. Of course, that led to other friends with sailboats that helped me with my newfound habit. During and after college I had a bit of a dry spell until I purchased a 36 Hunter in 1995. Sailed it quite regularly until 2000 when I donated it to the Sea Scouts of America (work was getting in the way of sailing). In 2003, 9 of us (I was the only sailor) chartered a bareboat 42 Fountaine Pajot out of Tortola, BVI for a week. In 2010 after moving to the Washington DC area from Houston, I joined a local boat club which was mostly power boats. However, they had a 29’ Hunter that I sailed out Annapolis over the next 3 years. In 2015 I helped a friend move his 49 Beneteau from Annapolis to New Orleans. I had sailed several times in the Chesapeake with him including one trip over to Delaware Bay and back. I didn’t have time to go all the way to New Orleans, so they dropped me off in Naples, Florida. It was quite an experience getting through the Keys. I mostly retired in 2018 and have decided to find some sailing opportunities. I don’t carry any certifications but consider myself a skilled sailor and would be comfortable on any size boat. | |
