Currently based in: | Salisbury, United Kingdom |
Looking for: | Caribbean; Mediterranean & Black Sea; |
Experience: | 4500 ocean miles / 9600 coastal miles |
I have sailed since the age of 5 - progressing from dinghies (with some time as a dinghy instructor) to cruising yachts in my early 20s - frequent Channel crossings to France and S Brittany - part owner of yachts from 28-32' kept on the UK South Coast. After a hiatus in cruiser sailing due to family and work commitments, although kept going with dinghies and windsurfing, until the fire was rekindled by taking part in the 2009 Fastnet campaign.. Since then have mostly bareboat chartered in the Med and in Australia, with some time as a skipper for adventurous training race events in the Baltic while the retirement plan took shape - only slightly blown off course by the impact of Covid on blue water sailing since early 2020. My wife Debbie and I took delivery of our Amel 50 Sŵn y Môr in La Rochelle in July 2021 and completed 1500+ miles of familiarisation and preparation for our first major ocean crossing on the ARC+ from Gran Canaria to Grenada via Cape Verde in early November/December 2022. Plan is to spend a season in the Caribbean before deciding whether to continue on through Panama or return to Europe to further explore the Med I have a YM Offshore Certificate of Competence and Debbie is an RYA qualified Day Skipper. In preparation for our Atlantic crossing we refreshed our training including Sea/Ocean Survival, Advanced Medical First Aid, Ocean Weather, LRC(HF/MF) and YM Ocean Theory. We approached the equipping of the boat with assistance from an experienced OCC mentor and an ARC safety examiner. We completed a safe and straightforward first Atlantic crossing, on a comfortable and well equipped boat, and are seeking crew to lighten the load on longer passages We are looking for 2 additional crew with watch leading capability and prior ocean crossing experience a definite advantage. Accommodation is forward double cabin or smaller 2 bunk cabin so couple or 2 singles considered, recent survival/first aid training preferred and although boat is easy to sail with little foredeck work required, agility and general boat upkeep skills are highly desirable as are willingness to be fully involved in provisioning, cooking, cleaning and essential boat maintenance in port and on passage. You should be easy going and adaptable non-smoking omnivores with no food fads or fetishes. Feel free to get in contact by phone, email, WhatsApp or our facebook page Sv Swn y Mor if you have any questions regarding the boat, the owners or the passages and look forward to hearing from you. | |
