Hello, I'm Iona. I will be 19 in October. I'm registering on this website as I am really keen to do the ARC or sail further afield this year. I have just finished school/A levels and have decided to take a year out to go sailing. I have been coastal cruising for many years with my family, however now I am eager to do an ocean passage sailing. I live in the Lake District UK and have done dingy sailing in Picos (RYA level 3). I come from a sailing family, my grandad was sea scout leader, my dad is Yacht Master with 23,500 miles, my mum is a Day Skipper and my older brother has done an Atlantic crossing. Many of my childhood holidays were spent coastal cruising in the Mediterranean as a family member and competent crew. However I am now really keen to develop my sailing skills and experience with longer passages and ocean sailing. I have started studying the RYA Day Skipper theory course but also feel it would be much better to get practical skills on the water. I’m excited and inspired by the challenge of sailing across the Atlantic or another ocean passage. In terms of what you’re probably looking for in a good crew I am easy going, keen to learn, reliable, determined and I'd generally be up for anything. I’m a quick learner, practical and a good team player. I can send you my full CV if that would be helpful which says a bit more about me and my interests. I’m currently saving up for my travels by working full time at Morrisons supermarket and I am also a holiday cottage cleaner, both these jobs are flexible and I can leave when required to take up a crewing position. Please do get back in touch.
