I am an easy going adventurer with positive attitude who obviously loves sailing :). I have done quite a bit of of offshore cruising (Atlantic coast, Mediterranean, Azores, French Polynesia) and share with friends a 25 footer for inshore family cruising. I also race in very different type of sailing events: I have done Fastnet race and a lot of Baltic sea offshore regattas, do quite a bit of ORC/IRC inshore racing, I still sail dinghies. I am no stranger to different watch systems and overnight watches. I understand well how the different positions work together on the sailboat and am happy to pitch in where needed: I have done plenty of miles in different weather in the helm during cruising/deliveries on bigger boats or while family cruising/dinghy racing. Have been a main trimmer or on jib in a few regattas, have handled 8 sail changes in 45 minutes as bowman, been a pitman and occasionally also a navigator/tactician (incl. expedition software). Have had an active role supporting the owner in getting the team together for weekly racing and contemplating who would be the best fit for bigger regattas. Have sailed mostly in teams where English is the main communication language due to multitude of nationalities (Estonian, Swedish, Finnish, Australian, British, South African, etc.). I enjoy diving, hiking, back-packing and all sorts of other type of active and sometimes extreme ways of spending time. At the same time I have in me a lazy dude, who likes once in a while to switch off from everything to just lay around and enjoy the ride :), situation permitting of course. I get along with people and have been told plenty of times that I have a decent (though maybe sometimes a bit dark) sense of humor. Professionally I have been working in finance for most of my career (15+ years), had analytical roles early in my career and managed international teams later on - so I understand the importance of good team dynamics and have experience of creating it. Currently I am a small entrepreneur which allows me to take also time for sailing. I have (luckily very understanding) partner and 2 kids (6 and 9). I have lived briefly in U.S. and Australia and travelled widely. I am looking to fulfill my dream to cross an ocean or two. It would be also another milestone towards a circumnavigation that I guess is in the cards one day :). So long story short: You like sailing, I like sailing - let's sail together ;) | |
