I grew up in the UK, took to dinghy sailing while at school, studied medicine, took post grad. qualifications in surgery for which I rewarded myself with a 30ft. steel sloop which I sailed out of the Solent for a decade or so. An urge to travel then took me to beautiful New Zealand where I crewed on the Great South Pacific Regatta - four months of great sailing around Fiji, Vanuatu, Noumea & back to Auckland. By the end I'd found out how to use a sextant & could more or less work out which ocean I was in. On the strength of that experience - which was over twenty years ago - I got passage as navigator on a delivery trip to from Sydney to Auckland which was my last serious sailing while I wandered back to UK overland, then to Canada, eventually coming to a halt in Grand Cayman in the Caribbean. Here I have pottered about in a Hobie cat and sailed a light sloop for a few years until she was destroyed by a hurricane while stored ashore. A few months ago I fulfilled a long time ambition and in Europe bought a well equipped and very sound Amel Super Maramu to go cruising once again. My plan is to bring her across the Atlantic to Cayman and hope to set out some time in January. So I've signed up with Noonsite to help put together a crew to enjoy the trade wind voyage to Cayman. | |
