Hi! My name is Charles. In 2021/2022, aged 31, my wife and i took a yearlong sabbatical and spent the year completing an Atlantic Circuit on our 41ft Westerly Oceanlord from 1992 called 'Caris' We successfully completed the 13,500nm circuit in August 2022, having had the most amazing and lifechanging experience, meeting so many fantastic people on the way. I have documented our year’s sailing on YouTube, and on Instagram, which I hope gives a flavour of what it is like to anyone else seeking to complete an Atlantic circuit. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCrM6V44LKxlQrY7PsrmQaGg https://www.instagram.com/yachting_otters/?hl=en Skippering a boat twice across the Atlantic was a hugely rewarding experience, not without its challenges, and I enjoyed every minute of it. Over the year I learnt to deal and resolve all sorts of challenges, from engine breakdown, electrical and rigging repairs, and weather routing and planning. I am an ex British Army Officer, and I understand the need to be mission focussed, disciplined, whilst operating in challenging environments. As an armoured vehicle commander, I have spent long periods of time with small crew in close quarters and have a lot of experience in keeping morale high, team cohesion strong, and overall experience enjoyable. I would love the opportunity to provide assistance as crew to any boat who are planning offshore or ocean crossings, and to share my experience of over 18 years of sailing. | |
