Dear Community, I am a Turkish-Canadian sailor who started racing dingies at our local club in Vancouver. I quickly decided to get my own keelboat to explore some of the nearby islands we have in BC. So I spent the sailing season working on my diesel inboard with a bit of sailing here and there :) Once I decided to move away from Vancouver, I sold my boat and spent a month crewing in the San Blas Islands. I helped the owner prepare the boat for the season, do the shakedown sail from Linton Bay to Chichime, and with his first few charters. My intentions after my Carribean adventure were to spend a year or two in the Netherlands and eventually head back to Vancouver. But I heard the seas calling. My friend had just finished building his first boat, a top-quality steel blue water cruiser, and needed crew to take her on tour. We set sail from Istanbul all the way down to Gocek and back, stopping at major ports and anchorages, showing the boat, and filming promotional content. Having spent a few months at sea, I now know the ocean is where I truly thrive. I truly believe that spending time away from the city's distractions and constant stimuli reveals a unique beauty in the ocean. There is something special about the connections made after long hours at sea with people from different backgrounds all drawn to the tranquility of sailing. I am now looking for an opportunity to cross the Atlantic and spend the next season crewing in the Caribbean. What I can offer: - Give a hand with any maintenance or project on board (even if I don't know something, I am always excited to learn) - Help with all sailing duties: Watches, anchor, foredeck... - Cooking for everyone (I am known to craft delicious meals at 30kts winds) Note: It goes without saying that I know the importance of keeping the small space we share tidy and clean at all times. I make an effort to tidy/organize (once I know where everything goes of course) our space as much as possible. | |
