Hello I am especially keen to join a crew with my girlfriend Lucy Cooke, to sail.... 1) From St Lucia / Martinique to the Dominican Republic, leaving 26 December 2022, arriving before Jan 10 2023. 2) To sail from Dominican Republic back to Europe, April 2023. 3) To build up experience before, near UK if possible. We are both competent sailors, learning fast - we will have both sailed the Atlantic in Dec 2022, I have the Competent Crew qualification - and aim to be resilient, resourceful crew members, who add to the life of the boat. We are both very fit and strong. Lucy produced National Geographic TV shows, so specialises in being extreme natural situations, and finding solutions. In several sailing disasters sailing the Channel, I have found I go calm, under pressure, and have the gift of just keeping going. We are both comical writers - Lucy is a zoologist and former Springwatch presenter who has written the recent hit Bitch; I used to write a funny column Dad Rules, a book and column at the back of Sunday Times Style - and at the end we aim to present crew-members at the end the story of the crossing, with pictures. Ultimately this journey is a pioneering part of the Ten Tonne Club. The average Brit makes ten tonnes of carbon a year, so why might they not pay ten thousand pounds to make up for it? We aim to do that, as positively and creatively as possible. We are sailing to the Dominican Republic, buying land from an old cow farm, which we will replant and rewild, with the help of the children of The Hive School. If you want to support or join The Tonne Club in future, get in touch. If you can invite us to sail, you're unlikely to find a couple of sailors who'll be more grateful! Best Wishes Andrew Clover
